K is for Kyle

When they were younger, they ran together in the group of cousins. It didn't matter how, or even if, you were related. If you were of a certain age and your parents were among the group that sat at the Big Table during Sunday dinners, birthday and anniversary celebrations and holidays, you were one of the cousins.

Now that they were older, and one by one the cousins started to pay more attention to the going ons of the Big Table than the next adventure, it started to matter how they were related.

Kyle still had no interest in what was happening at the Big Table so he sat thinking while watching the younger cousins.

“You do realize that you're supposed to make sure the youngers don't kill each other right?” Andy spoke from behind Kyle.

“Johnny's fine.” Kyle said of his younger brother who was currently tied up to a tree, feet dangling a good foot from the ground. “I made sure Suzy and Meg didn't tie him upside down like they originally planned and like Sarah did to you. Johnny can make it out on his own or one of the others will step up and get him out, like I did for you.”

“Ah, memories.” Andy sniggered sitting down beside Kyle. “Is that what you a brooding about? Memories?”

Kyle leaned into Andy. “I love you.”

“Love is supposed to make you happy, not sad.”

“You make me happy but...” Kyle didn't continue knowing that Andy understood.

“Well, we have three choices. One: we continue as we have been. In love and miserable because we're cousins and therefore aren't together. Two: we do our damnedest to walk away from each other, get over this and move on to find other loves. Or, three: we walk inside, let everyone know that although we are family and 'cousins' we are not blood related and that it's okay to love each other the way we do.”

“Do you think they'll be okay with number three?” Kyle worried.

“Kyle, love, they want us to be happy. I love you. You make me happy. You love me. I make you happy. They'll understand and they'll support us. After all, we aren't the first set of 'cousins' to fall in love.”

“We are the first set of gay ones though.”

“As if that will matter to anyone here. Uncle Frankie already broke that door open for us.” Andy replied, nudging Kyle in the shoulder, “Come on. Get up. Unless you have a serious objection, we are going in there together and facing our future. Together.”

Kyle stood up and allowed Andy to take his hand. It reassured Kyle to see that Andy took a deep breath before opening the door.

Kyle tightened his hold on Andy's hand when Andy approached the head of the Big Table. Kyle almost missed Andy's words as whispers started up from everyone else.

“Oma,” Andy started, “I love Kyle and wish to be with him. I ask your permission to court him.”

Kyle completely missed Oma's reply when behind him the whispers got louder and comments caught his attention.

“Told you it was Andy and Kyle.”

“You so owe me a hundred bucks.”

“I totally thought they'd go on hiding it and being miserable.”

“Good for them, it's about time.”

Kyle's attention was brought back to Andy abruptly as he was grabbed in a hug and kissed in front of everyone. Oma must have agreed.
