Personality: Maria is a character who can have her personality summed up in a few simple traits, a seemingly endless kindness and incredible optimism regardless of the situation which may be unfurling around her. Needless to say that with those characteristics, the girl has a fairly unique way of dealing with other people, most notably her apparent ease at forgiving and forgetting the misdeeds that others may have done, even to the point of forgiving and feeling sadness for those for have done actual harm to her. With the levels of kindness that she can extend to others, it’s hardly a surprise that she tends to form bonds with others relatively quickly and easily especially with those who extend a similarly friendly and inviting attitude in return.
In extension to her helpful and uplifting attitude there is a clear sense of selflessness which is clearly displayed by the girl, most notably coming into play when she chose to sacrifice herself in order to save Shadow the Hedgehog so that in turn he would help the world.
Overall Maria had grown up into a well mannered girl; living on the Space Colony has had several consequences which could prove to be a hazard when compared to those who have lived upon Earth. Her curiosity is one such point which could have proven to be dangerous anywhere but the colony, while she may have learnt to stay out of trouble around the various experiments and simply to avoid troubling others, it would be relatively easy to persuade the girl into experiencing situations which someone her age may know to avoid. Simply in general Maria is naive to the world she had to leave behind, knowledge thought of to be common place is missing such a experiencing the changing weather and nature on an incredibly broad scale. It’s also questionable as to whether the girl, as kind natured as she is, would know how to even deal with stores and everyday exchanges with money and the like.
Strengths/Weaknesses: When it comes to strengths, Maria’s are very tightly entwined with her general personality. She can prove to have an almost unshakable calm and collected nature, capable of withstanding a great range of cold shoulders, which can notably lead her to become a sturdy source of happiness to lighten up a day or simply a reliable point of comfort to those who need it.
A shoulder to cry on and an ear to listen to whatever others have to say without passing judgement, in sense Maria can seem like a sisterly/motherly type of person who extends an open arm to almost everyone.
While normally seeming upbeat, to the point of helping others to be within the same state of mind, Maria does know when to be serious and stubborn when necessary. At the age of 12 her skill of appropriately changing her attitude to fit the situation can make her seem a little older than she truly is.
Saying that, one of her weaknesses lies in her lack of knowledge about the world she had admired from afar. Maria is certainly an easy target for others to take advantage of, with a lack of social understanding she is at the mercy of anyone wishing to take advantage of polite and well natured personality.
With that in mind there is also the fact that her health is far less than perfect, within canon she suffered from Neuro-Immuno Deficiency Syndrome or NIDS for short. It was a disease which crippled her immune system to the point where any and all bacteria could finally be the end of her, although her death was caused by a gunshot rather than the illness.
Given that Route would give her a cure of sorts to her illness; she would likely still possess a frail immune system. Not to the point of being deadly but certainly to the point of being an unlucky individual who catches a fair amount of colds when they go around.

Samples
(Please note that both samples must take place in Route_29’s setting.)
First Person Sample: [A glance around with a smile upon her face, the girl seems perfectly content with taking things slow while simply noting every little aspect of her surroundings.]
It still seems a little odd, being close enough to touch and enjoy it all.
[As a wind blows past the girl seems to relax a little further and become lost in thought. After a few moments the girl very calm raises her hands to gently rest near her chest. Eyes close as she takes a deep breath. Once. Twice.]
Riiill? [Her attention shifts, eyes opening once more, as she turns to glance downwards. A bright smile soon returns as she crouches down, trying to meet a Marill as close to eye level as possible. The blue creature tilts its whole body in a questioning stance.]
It’s okay, i’ve simply been thinking about this place. [A gentle pat to its head.] There’s no need to worry, I feel perfectly fine.
[With a small laugh she stands once more, eyes turning towards the path ahead. There was no reason to increase the small creature’s concern with thoughts of her past condition which had seemingly been cured.] We should probably start moving on before night falls, shouldn’t we? I can’t imagine sleeping outside without shelter.
Third Person Sample: It had been some time since the girl had stopped for a rest, despite the clear need for one which had appeared earlier on in the form of a light headed feeling. Maria had continued onwards despite her body’s warning, confident in the idea that she simply needed to test her stamina for it to ever improve, how could she cope on her own if it was going to be so much of a constant struggle to move from one town to the other? Keeping a smile on her face, remaining as positive as possible in her thoughts, she pressed onwards with small reassuring comments to the rather stubborn Marill who had simply refused to return to its pokéball on that occasion. Maria couldn’t blame the creature; she knew that it was being defiant for the sake of keeping an eye on her, just in case her endurance ran out in the middle of tall grass or the like.
The little action, as small as it was, reminded her of home, or how things were before the invasion and before... Well, back to someone she was certain was still around somewhere. How long had it been for Shadow since their parting? Had he managed to help people? Or had something-
The girl shook her head to rid her mind of such thoughts; there was simply no way that she could imagine her close friend from the Space Colony being in trouble of any sort. She had complete faith in him, he would be well and living happily somewhere.
“Ma-marill!” The girl’s attention shifted from her thoughts of the past to see what the cry had been about, it had sounded like an excited call from the small creature, so perhaps it had found something. Maria pressed onwards as quickly as her legs could allow her, only to stop short when a view of the scenery caught her eye; it was clear why the pokémon had been so eager to call her over. It was peaceful looking area upon the route, a place to rest within an area of shade with a small body of water for the blue creature to relax within for the time being.
Maria could feel her own face light up at the sight, this was the type of view that she had always wanted to see, the type of place she had wished to visit and eventually live within. While portraying for the world an expression of excitement, closely following the now bouncing round form of the Marill, in the back of her mind she felt almost disappointed. She had made a promise to Shadow to go to such places together, even if by now he had already explored those sites upon the Earth, it still felt as she was breaking her word.
A small prod to her leg brought her back to reality, Marill staring up with a concerned look which seemed to almost constantly be on its face. The girl gave a reassuring smile, “I’m still okay,” a pause as she slowly bent down, “you can take a little time for yourself if you want. Just don’t go too far.” Very gently she tapped the creature’s nose, “I’ll be right here when you get back, I promise.”
