Character name: Loki Laufeyson
Fandom: Thor (Marvel Studios Movie-verse)
Timeline: Following his suicide toward the end of the movie proper, pre-post-credit teaser.
Age: Ages and ages, physically, mid-to-late 20s.

~*Magical*~ abilities and strengths:
Loki is the god of mischief, and last remaining Ice Giant. As an Asgardian god, he is a master of magic and can conceal others, himself, shapeshift, create illusions, and fly. His magic is rarely directly offensive, and he prefers to use it to prey on the emotions of others (fellow gods, mortals, animals, whatever seems the most amusing at the time). Frequently, he creates illusionary duplicates of himself, and uses them to lure his opponents into attacking. Usually to their downfall.

He’s also known for his “silver tongue” and is a really, really good liar. Generally speaking, if Loki tells you something, you don’t accept it as absolute fact, but on some level you want it to be true. He uses this ability to manipulate many, many people largely for the lols.

As an Ice Giant, he’s also impervious to anything being “too cold” on top of his already godly endurance and lifespan.

How would they use their abilities?:
To screw with people. Because it’s fun.

Actually, he’ll think this Magrathea place sounds bloody brilliant and he’ll likely do everything in his (not to be underestimated) power to get to it. Because it sounds entertaining and interesting, which usually means fun for a longer period of time.

Appearance:
Ha, that’s relative. In his ‘natural state’, Loki is an (abnormally small) Ice Giant. As an Ice Giant he has reddish eyes, and blue, rough skin. He doesn’t generally take this form.
His Asgardian form looks largely human. He stands at about 5’10, with dark hair, green eyes, and a generally slender physique. Everything about Loki is small, subtle, and dainty.
He can also shapeshift, so uhh… Again, everything here is relative.

Background/Personality:
Once upon a time (sometime in the 10th Century AD, actually), the Ice Giants of Jotunnheim and the Gods of Asgard were at war. It was a long and hard war, but eventually, Odin the Allfather drove the Ice Giants back to Jotunnheim with all the forces of Asgard. Upon dividing up the spoils of war, Odin found a small Jotunn baby in one of the temples. This was actually Laufey’s son, who he had left to die because of his embarrassingly small size. Odin took the baby home and raised him alongside his biological son.

Odin called the boy Loki (the etymology of which has never been explained). Loki and Thor (Odin’s biological son) grew to be great friends and neither of them were told of Loki’s true origin. In fact, it seemed as though the entire kingdom of Asgard was sworn to secrecy on the matter, or simply didn’t care. While they were close, Loki and Thor grew up to be very different. Thor enjoyed winning contests of strength and sparring with the other warriors, while Loki enjoyed his privacy and studied magic. It was understood that one day, Thor would sit on the thrown of Asgard, and the less charismatic, calmer Loki would continue to advise him from the shadows.

Loki loved his brother deeply, yes, but also vaguely wanted to see him taken down a peg. So, in a scheme that was more the product of sibling rivalry than anything else, Loki arranged to sneak two rebel Ice Giants into Asgard to ruin a feast honoring Thor. The feast was definitely, definitely ruined, and Thor was furious at the apparent breach of Asgard’s security. Odin felt that pursuing the rebels wasn’t worth risking the truce with Laufey, King of the Ice Giants, and Asgard’s time or peace, so he ordered his sons, and their friends to sit tight.

Thor, of course, ignored him. Against Loki’s advisement, he, Thor, the Warriors Three and the Lady Sif made their way to the Bifrost (a wormhole/rainbow bridge by which Asgardians traveled to the other eight realms) and asked Heimdal the gatekeeper to take them to Jotunnheim, the realm of the giants. Not really wanting to disobey Odin, but also fascinated that someone had made it past his watch and wanting an explanation for it, Heimdal agreed.

The six reached Jotunnheim, but were far outnumbered by Laufey’s warriors. Laufey ordered them back, and thanks to Loki’s intervention it seemed like they’d be allowed to return to Asgard. Then, of course, Laufey chose to insult Thor’s manhood and all hell broke loose. They fought the Ice Giants, but again, were far outnumbered. Flandar (one of the Warriors Three) was injured, and Loki was grabbed by an Ice Giant, inexplicably taking its form momentarily before managing to toss it off a nearby cliff. The fight was not going well, and Thor offered to sacrifice himself so that his friends could return to Asgard, but thankfully, Odin arrived just in the nick of time and saved his sons and their friends.

Back in Asgard, Odin was furious and ordered that Thor be banished to Earth. Loki looked visibly troubled by the order but said nothing against his father’s wishes. Thor was made a mortal and thrown to Earth, along with his hammer, Moljnir. Shortly thereafter, Loki went to Hall of Relics to find a treasure Odin had stolen from the Ice Giants many years earlier. As he touched it he found that again his skin turned blue and he started becoming one of the giants. Odin appeared then and told him to leave it alone. They argued, and Odin eventually revealed that Loki was actually an Ice Giant that he’d found as a child during the last battle in Jotunnheim. Loki was furious at having been lied to for years, but in the midst of his shouting, Odin collapsed.

Every few centuries Gods require a long, coma-like sleep. Usually there’s a period of preparation, and Odin was to have left Thor on the throne of Asgard while he was in the Odinsleep. Unfortunately, Thor’s banishment meant that he couldn’t be left as king and all the traumatic events leading up to that point meant that Odin was unprepared. Thor and Loki’s mother, Frigga worried that because of this he wouldn’t wake up. Still angry with his father and his brother, Loki saw this as an opportunity. With no one opposing him, he declared himself King of Asgard until such time as his father recovered.

Hoping to speak to Odin about Loki’s suspected treachery, the Lady Sif and the Warriors Three instead found Loki on the thrown and requested that he use his new authority to bring Thor back to Asgard. Loki told them that his first order of King couldn’t be to undo Odin’s last and sent them away. He then visited Thor on Earth, feeding him an elaborate story about how their father had died of more or less a broken heart and that their mother had forbidden his return. Thor thanked him for the visit and seemed resolved not to return to Asgard.

Loki then visited Jotunnheim and promised Loki that he would return the treasures stolen by Odin, if Laufey would come to Asgard and kill Odin. Laufey agreed, not knowing Loki was planning on double crossing him all along.

Upon his return to Asgard, Heimdal confronted Loki, saying that while he was in Jotunnheim, Heimdal couldn’t see or hear Loki. The Jotunn that had broken into Asgard on the night of Thor’s coronation apparently did so similarly. Loki reminded Heimdal that he was sworn by honor to obey the kind of Asgard and now Loki was the king. Heimdal reluctantly dropped the matter, but contacted the Warriors Three and Sif shortly thereafter and sent them to Midgard (Earth), even after Loki had ordered that the Bifrost be forbidden except on his express order. Loki sent the Destroyer down to Earth to find Thor and kill him before the Warriors Three could bring him back to Asgard. He also returned to the Bifrost gate and ordered that Heimdal be removed from service for his act of treason. With his oath to the King of Asgard over, Heimdal attacked Loki, but Loki stopped him with sorcerery and the Jotunn’s ice casket (think of it like an ice ray in a shiny block). Heimdal could only watch as Laufey and several other Ice Giants marched on Asgard.

Loki sat upon the thrown and used his sorcery to listen to the battle on Earth. As a mortal, Thor was more or less powerless against the Destroyer, even with the help of his friends. In what should have been his dying words, he apologized to Loki for whatever had caused him to do this. Loki ignored him and let the Destroyer ‘kill’ him anyway. A few seconds later, Laufey and the Ice Giants burst into Odin’s bedchambers. Frigga tried to defend him, but was outmatched. Loki then attempted to kill Odin, but was stopped in the nick of time by Loki who killed Laufey. Frigga held her adopted son, thanking him for saving his father and just then, Thor burst in. To ruin Loki’s day yet again.

Thor demanded that Loki tell Frigga about how he’d lied to Thor, lied to her, and unleashed the Ice Giants on Asgard. Loki dismissed him and they fought, Loki gaining the upper hand and fled to the Bifrost gate to destroy Jotunnheim. He opened the gate, jamming Heimdal’s sword to keep the portal open. With the portal open, the full power of the Bifrost would grow and would, eventually, break Jotunnheim apart. Thor followed him, but with Loki’s plan already in motion, Thor was powerless to do anything to stop it. Thor asked his brother what he thought he was doing, destroying an entire race. Loki asked Thor why he suddenly had such love for Ice Giants, what on Earth had made him so soft, etc. He further taunted Thor by threatening a woman he’d grown to care for during his time on Earth. Thor threw Loki back onto the rainbow bridge to the Bifrost, but could still do nothing to stop the Bifrost.

Despite knowing that it would mean Asgard would be sealed from the other realms and that he would never be able to visit Earth again, Thor used his hammer to cut the Bifrost from it’s bridge. It fell, causing no small amount of chaos. In it, Thor, and Loki are about to fall off the edge of Asgard, into the oblivion and seemingly infinite space between realms before they’re saved by Odin. Loki assures his father that he could’ve achieved his goal of destroying the Jotunn and it wouldn’ve been for Odin and Asgard, but Odin dismisses him quietly. Loki looks admonished and lets go of Odin’s staff, falling into oblivion.
Which is when he wakes up on the Thor (cursed name for a ship) in the new arrivals.

Have you read up on how the game works?:
Characters use the Flaming Ferret system to communicate, perform jobs for fun, profit, and rent. Fun, profit, and rent can also be obtained through pick pocketing and manipulation. There are events through the Infinite Improbability Drive, the captains are mice, and the ultimate goal is ostensibly to reach Magrathea.

1st person sample:

[There’s a small click as the feed cuts on to show a rather unassuming young man with dark hair and green eyes. He’s slender, but holds himself in a way that indicates it’s a biological predilection rather than any oversight in his physical activities or upbringing. When he speaks, it’s in a deeper voice than one might expect, the tone is calm, and the only other notable thing about it is that he has no discernable accent.]

Forgive the interruption of your doubtlessly important tasks, however it has recently occurred to me that I have yet to pose this question to the denizens of this system. A foolish oversight, truly. Refugees, as they call us, would have the most need for such information, no?

[His lips curl into a good natured smirk, as though he assumes everyone watching this can predict the next question and thus, is something of an inside joke.]

Would you all be so accommodating as to tell me what you know of Magrathea? The guides offer precious little and from what I’ve gathered, it is thought to be a mysterious place spoken of only in jest, or as a tale told to keep children enamored with the world around them.
So, yes. Call me a fool, or a dream chaser, if you like. But for any information at all, I would be very, very grateful.

[If Loki forgets to actually move to turn off the guide, well, clearly that’s just your imagination. Just like odd glint his eyes might’ve taken on as he spoke.]

3rd person sample:
The news of Earth’s destruction didn’t honestly bother him, it was the revelation of realms unknown floating through the great oblivion that did the trick. The God of Mischief was thrown, though perhaps not visibly. It took more than a world shaking revelation to visibly throw Loki, though perhaps he’d just been desensitized to it of late.

"Are there any questions?" The creature asked in a pleasant, almost gratingly so, voice. She didn’t honestly care about any of their concerns, or their wishes. She was merely reciting a speech. Funny how cultures from across thousands and thousands of lightyears could be so similar. Human squabbles, godly flyting. They both seemed almost irrelevant when faced with such a situation. Almost.

A few of his fellow refugees shuffled with the multicolored, duplicated, triplicate forms in their sweaty hands. Some looked scared, some looked confused, others infuriated. Loki smile wanly at the creature, and he assumed the expression he received in return was its definition of a smile, similar in its lack of enthusiasm. Not flat out sarcasm, of course.

Absently, Loki glanced down at the copies of the documents in his lap, blank and waiting to be bubbled in. They asked for things like planet of origin and species. It was nonsense. Rubbish. Garbage. A thousand other words for meaningless tripe for which he had no time and even less use. What good were housing placement documents to a god? And who were they to impose such things upon a son of Laufey? A son of Odin?

Mouth upturning into a small, ever subtle hint of a frown, Loki shifted. No one was paying attention to him now. The creature had gone back to its lecture, welcoming them to their new home. One woman sobbed, another mortal man squeezed her hand. A child asked where its parents were. Had anyone seen them? His new facade was carefully innocuous. No one would remember the proud form of the god who’d been with them earlier. They were too distracted by their own mortal problems and dying homes.

He allowed himself to drift as the creature continued speaking. She told them of a park, and he pondered the gardens near the palace and how with the Bifrost gone he had little hope of seeing them again. She told them of jobs and employment and he thought of his own magics and the hoard of treasures he’d amassed. Would Thor divide his collection amongst the other pitiful spell casters? Would his parents see fit to keep it as a monument to their tragically lost false son? It didn’t matter now, he would never know. Strangely Loki found himself almost missing Asgard. Almost.

Then the creature spoke in a tone of finality. "This has been the end of the orientation. Welcome to the Thor." That must be the name of the ship. Loki cursed and vanished with a twist of his hand.

Questions?: Can he find his helm and armor in his room?
