Has anyone around here baked a cake without an oven? I mean like with a microwave, a rice cooker or a toaster oven. There is a cake my friends want me to make for them, but we don't have an oven at our disposal.
Hi, I know you don't know me, but I'm icca's friend. I LOVE your icon. How about a Chinese steamed cake? In terms of hardware you need a stove/hot plate, a pot, a hand mixer, a baking pan, and a steamer. But remember that to make a steamer A.B. once used an empty tuna can opened on both ends as a base and topped it with a disposable pie tin punched full of holes. Also, remember when whipping egg whites to use a chilled metal bowl and chilled beaters (I made the mistake of using plastic and it never whipped up). You can google 'Chinese steamed cake' and get a bunch of recipes. If you try it, let me know how it works out. ^_^
actually that sounds like a quite entertaining cake to make. I will have to try it sometime! :-D This time though I am supposed to make a cake that people from my area in usa eat. My icon came from the lj community called good_eats I think. It was free wither way so long as I attributed it to 'fritters' in the tagline on lj. feel free to take and attribute if you want. :-)
do tell! :-D I need information on this as I need to make a coca-cola cake for some friends that taught me how to make korokke(spelling?) who want to try such an unusual cake as they put it. btw one of them is coming to pitt next year too! she just got the news.
I've done cake in a rice cooker also. I just poured the mix in and set the timer for about an hour and checked the cake until a toothpick inserted in the center came out clean...messy but it worked.
did you change anything about the mix? what kind of rice cooker did you use? :-D I have a close top type here to use. what texture was the cake when it came out?
