Okay. I can't do it. This list thing? No way in hell I can choose six songs to be my favorites. I'm not even sure I can name six favorite bands, which I think we must agree is easier. I'll check out the new Spoon albums. Don't think I've tried them since like 99.
Likewise Decemberists . . . I've heard good things about their newest, although I must admit Colin Meloy half amuses me and half drives me out of my damn mind. Can't quite decide on them.
The Shining and Trail of Dead are also avenues I have not pursued, so thanks. For the lot of it. Now I have some direction to my exploration.

Otherwise, look at the new Kings of Leon album (Aha Shake Heartbreak), the new Beck (Guero), and the new Gorillaz (Demon Days).
Oh, also: this entry was a cop-out. There's no way I can name six favorite songs either, which is why I picked at random six songs I liked a lot and which I've been listening to a lot lately. It's a silly meme - don't take it so seriously.

Actually I did check out Jurassic 5, and I kinda like them. And it's not like I don't know anything about hip-hop, you know. I went to public school.
Seriously though, I like hip-hop . . . just not mainstream boring repetitive radioplay hip-hop, and not really enough to research it much, but I get cravings after hearing too much whiny imitation emo. And for this I cultivate a certain patch of my music landscape with stuff that, if not maybe dead-on classic hip-hop, has a lot of affinity to it. Frankly I'm pretty loose with genre, but you can check out the collection sometime if you want. My problem with it is that it all tends to sound much the same unless you get some serious rulebreaking in there.
Gorillaz I think have alienated me beyond repair (unless it's completely irresistable and it comes to get me ( ... )
