there are lots and lots of websites touting kitchen cutlery. you can wander easily n2 the exotica of asian knives and begin 2 think you need one or 2 of those to complete yer kitchen. japanese cutlery particularly is the rage

I do not own a santuko, though I own several other good knives. My favorite is a Wusthof 10" chef's knife. It's odd that I favor such a large knife, because I have relatively small hands. But the moment I picked it up, I knew the heft and balance was perfect for me.
actually, one of the things to which one may wish to accustom oneself is breaking the peculiarly universal (american) habit of calling the all-around japanese knife a "santuko"

*still in hidden whisper mode (except that I can't put this into a green font lol)* Why? Because it's not by Japanese definition a true santuko? I suppose the naming of the knife falls into the relatively same category as the champagne purists' fight (legally successful) to have all others called sparkling wines or some rendition thereof. Okay, here's your chance. Name that knife.
