i finally read an amazing brief story by jack london after hearing about it for a long time. it's mentioned in muted tones in certain literary circles, as tho to discuss it outright is an example of bad behavior. it's horrific and lonely and makes you want to hug a friend, or pet your dog, or light a candle...
