everybody wonders what you're gonna do

Oct 23, 2007 20:04

this weekend just... owned. technically it's all bonus after tulsa, but now i've done a couple more things that are just so omgamazing that after every one, i say "i could die right now and be done with everything." then something else happens.

Hanson
Jannus Landing, St. Pete
October 20, 2007

we got to st pete around.. 2 o'clock? i think? the gps got us confused, and we started a little late anyway. but we got numbers (64-68) and just kinda chilled until the walk. and i was so nervous and worried about the walk that i almost didn't want to do it, but st pete was so awesome. a couple hundred people probably walked, but it was so chill. i walked next to zac for a while and got some pictures, but i couldn't quite hear what he was saying so i kept walking until i found isaac for a little while, and then obviously i made my way to taylor. and i stayed with him for the whole middle, probably more than half the walk overall. and when i say "stayed with him" i mean i managed to stay within a 10-ft radius. everyone kind of migrated in and out, left and right, and you just kind of flowed with the crowd. i couldn't come up with any conversation-starters, but i got a couple of one-liners off that he at least heard. like he was talking to himself at an intersection, saying "taking the walk, taking the walk" and i, like an idiot, go "or really, the crosswalk" and he went "yeah, taking the crosswalk." and it was lame and so was i, but oh well. and then we had our big mid-walk congregation at a bay walk of stores, and some security guard told taylor we had 2 minutes, and taylor definitely said something rude after he walked away on the megaphone--not what he said so much as his tone. like he said "i'm sure all the people who own these shops will know we're not hurting their business. we're here for the community." but his tone pretty much said "fuck you, you don't know what's going on." good times. and as soon as that ended and we started walking again, they walked by me and i turned to isaac and asked if he got the flowers we had sent him from the hanson livejournal community (yes, i knew that he didn't already) and he said that he got a lot of flowers and he really appreciated them, and especially the money that had been donated to charities. then we talked about his stay in the hospital and i told him how we had all been worried about him and checking up on the news. he said that statistically it was a scary thing, and he should have probably been more scared than he was, but he knew he would pull through because there were just so many things to do, and he gestured to the walk. so then we talked about the walks and the poverty situation and he said that people had been asking them why they aren't focusing on the povery in america, and he explained himself really well. i'm so proud that they really are up to snuff on all these issues and arguments. so many people don't even know the term absolute poverty. so we talked until the end of the walk, and we stopped at the back of the crowd and he said it was nice talking to me and shook my hand, then ran to catch up with his brothers who were already talking, lol.

isaac doing a funny pose. it's almost "like a giant!"

he's such an adorable little boy sometimes:

wouldn't this have been an amazing shot if i'd remembered to zoom out? i still love it though:

dude. the hair:

the second half (aka not taylor's) part of the walk:

i love confused!taylor. and btw, i have zoomed out by now:

this dude randomly joined the walk when he heard what it was about and ended up having a conversation with taylor about africa first, then music. guy's a rapper:

he's smiling way too widely to be being chastized by a security guard:

taylor and his megaphone are very close:

taylor's brothers watching dutifully. or in zac's case, sexily:

he always gets so sad when isaac's talking instead of him:

that's me! that smile is for meeeeee:

i look a little, uh, dumb? but oh well:

chest hairrr:

taylor.sweat.:

me and mah crew:

my view from the stairs before the meet n greet:

then it took forever to get the meet n greet. and the venue had never even heard of us. so we told him to find rebecca, and saw him talking to her and machine, and a little after 6:30 we ended up going up the stairs. the actual meet n greet was kind of.. lame? i guess? i mean, compared to the walk and how i've already met them a few times but they don't recognize me as one of the fans, i'm just kind of chill but still out of place. but i had them sign the group picture we were in from MONA, and taylor was like "oh, cool, whose is this?" and smiled when i said it was mine. and isaac studied that thing really hard, lol. i didn't even see zac sign it. and then taylor got it back, added "HANSON" under zac's name, then asked me my name so i spelled it. and i definitely thought he was spelling it wrong, because he started to write "To:" but it looked like "Tri" and i actually told him he was spelling it wrong. then he stared me down as he spelled the rest of it, and i wanted to crawl into a hole and never come out. i'm sorry i thought you were a blond, taylor. here's to hoping you have a bad memory.

....then i got first row at a hanson concert. and i died. we weren't ever pushed up, but we were squished side to side (i think i said at one point "i think our hip bones are touching through the skin by now" to the girl next to me), and my arms rested on the metal rail the entire time i wasn't dancing, so i have huge bruises right above my elbows that are so much fun, really. but mark and james came out, and mark is incredibly cute, and they had a lot of fun. and locksley came out, and i kinda sorta liked them, but not really? lol the acoustics sucked balls at jannus.

and then hanson came out! and my brand new camera, while i am first row for the first time and at a venue where i can take pictures, my camera dies. two songs in. and i'm devastated and frustrated, but after a song or two i got over it completely and danced my little ass off. a lot. i almost fell down three times walking to the car afterward. anyway, the show is one big blur of dancing, squishing, and more dancing. and there was this big black pole that held up the canopy from the front of the center of the stage, and zac threw himself on it twice and swung all the way around. it was pretty awesome. and one of the locksley guys grinded against it during the encore, but i can't remember which one :( bummer.

me in first row and all my friends right behind me! you can see britt and steffie in this one. oh! and cory's holding that camera up:

the best ones i got before the devastating battery catastrophe:

brittany took this video! it's glorious. the audio is awesome. all hail brittany.

SETLIST:
Great Divide: you probably know this by now, but that groove is even better when you're seeing it live.
Minute Without You
Been There Before
Can't Stop: i'll admit it, normally i get pretty annoyed when they play this song. but being front row, you're pretty much forced to have an amazing time. and i danced my ass off.
Crazy Beautiful: i don't even care that i've seen it at almost every show since they released it. it's still one of my all-time favorites.
Hole in My Life: yeah, didn't bother to learn the covers. but i love that chorus.

Strong Enough to Break
Go
Mmmbop: it wasn't until this moment that i realized exactly how much that song describes my life right now. i couldn't even sing along, i just mouthed the words. it freaked me out.
Song to Sing: during this song, with taylor right in front of me, it occurred to me all over again why i love and will always love this band more than words could ever express. and since this song, which isaac introed as one about those times when all you can do is turn to music, describes my situation so much right now, and since i just kept watching taylor sing it 10 unobstructed feet from my eyes, i cried.

Joy to the World: this may have been the most fun song in the history of the world. and i'm including boston's lweo last tour. all screams and arms and hips.
Look at You
Blue Sky: it is amazing being hanson's choir. that is all.
This Time Around
Running Man: aly, the girl next to me, and i were talking before hanson's set about how little we could actually move, and she had made a joke that all we could really do for a dance was the monkey. so we did, during this chorus. the running man/the monkey. it was awesome.
Let Love Rule
This Time Around
Watch Over Me: i'm sooo glad i got to see this one live. especially after this freshly re-newed appreciation of isaac.
Hey
Something Going Round: ok. let me just say. taylor did the whole "do you guys have that something?" and the crowd was kind of like "uh.. *scattered cheering* *looking around*" and taylor goes "that...*grunts*" that's right. he thrust his hips forward and grunted. it was glorious. and right in my face.

Lost Without Each Other: yes, yes, y-e-s. jumped the entire time, even though it was basically human pinball.
Long Way to the Top: the locksley guys came back out and it was one big celebration. the singer in the middle (i don't know their naaaames) had the megaphone, and at one point, he was singing lines that we echoed it.
Great Divide (Reprise): led of course by the walk reminder. taylor has perfected that speech by now. he does it 4 times a day. anyway, it was awesome because, since the pole was in the way, the guys got on the speakers directly in front of the stage to do this part.

Hanson
House of Blues, Orlando
October 21, 2007

Orlando was so much crazier than St Pete. the walk was probably around 500 people. and they were all crazy and/or rude. like, i ran about 10 steps to catch up with my sister, and someone went "uh, it's the walk not the run." and i thought "uh, it's my sister stfu kthx." anyway. i passed isaac by accident and only saw him once i was too far ahead of him, i didn't see zac for a second, and stayed in taylor's group once i got there. at the end, i ended up arm-to-arm with him again, but by accident. i was walking a little ahead of him, just content to listen to him talk to girls about different forms of protest they'd done, and again about the shoe and poverty thing. it's horrible that i word it like that. but i was just walking along, and suddenly he was next to me. it was almost scary. i was like "whoa, who's that--HI." except i kept my mouth shut because i still have nothing of worth to say to taylor, ever. and besides, i already had that epic moment with him in tulsa, so i don't *need* to have another one. it'd just be nice if i didn't clam up in awe every time now. besides the crazy pushing and running and general mob-ness (which taylor summarized as a "big ass walk"), it was pretty standard stuff. then we got in line again and talked to this cool couple, this girl and her boyfriend, that had been at the st pete show. and the rest of the time was spent under towels and/or umbrellas while it rained and we wondered about stamps vs pass the line vs magic marker numbers. numbers won, btw. funny that we can decide after 10 years, "hey, we can order ourselves" ... and it works. ridiculous. we're really slow sometimes.

he's saying "seriously, guys, let us get to the front so we can start this walk." his nicer sentence didn't work so much:

my favorite picture of isaac. again, no zoom. booyah. lol:

it's a trademark face. only he could make it hot:

this is when i was suddenly next to him in that destined awesome way:

most of the walkers:

and i'm not ashamed:

i hate that i don't have a picture, but when he was done holding those shoes up -- or maybe it wasn't until he was done talking -- he for some inexplicable reason patted his chest and stomach down with those shoes. like seriously? wtf is that. lol:

zac's smile. even i'm a sucker for it:

this is one of my favorites. i didn't even see zac when i took it. and definitely not ike:

and here's a video that i definitely didn't take, and neither did any of the people i was with... but i'm all up in it next to taylor :D if you don't recognize me with all the pixelation, i'm to his right in the orange and gray striped shirt. score.

i ended up about three people back from dead center. steffie was next to me, keri behind her, and cory behind her. the girl and her boyfriend ended up next to me, and their friend dubbed "nonfan" because he was just chilling with them in line and ended up getting someone's spare ticket. but he was pretty cool - he interviewed me on the walk, and interviewed taylor, too. i guess sarah put him in charge of the video, and looking through our pictures, he did a really good job of staying really close to the guys, lol. so um... yeah. mark and james again, and they were way awesome-r and mark is way cuter when you're not dead in front of the piano and he's all the way on the other side of an ill-lit stage.

then locksley came out, and their mics weren't working. and they didn't know. they got halfway through the first song before they caught on to what we were telling them. it was pretty funny. so they just kind of talked to the first few rows of us and kept trying to get them on but they weren't coming, and someone yelled "striptease!" and faster than you can take a breath, the guy in the middle goes "ok" and walks toward the back of the stage to set down his guitar. and he stays turned around, and the drummer gives him a beat, and he starts moving his hips and taking off his jacket and turned his head around to kind of eye us. so the jacket comes off and gets thrown to the side, the hat gets thrown by another guy in the band, and the suspenders come off his shoulders. it was pretty sexy. eventually they got them back on, but they didn't think they did. they kept going "yeah? can you hear me?" and we would nod and yell, and they turned to the guy on the boards. and the guy in the middle (i'll figure out names later, i guess? 'cause i've gone and forgotten), was all "yeah, rock and roll isn't all fun. there's actually some work involved.. like there are these monitors we have, and sometimes we hear things that you don't, and sometimes you hear things that we don't. like right now, i can't hear a word i'm saying." and he had this little smile on his face. then they finally played their set, and they were awesome. i had way more fun this time, because i could hear some of what was going on. at jannus, the most lyrics i could tell you are "good time" during some song or other. so this was cool.

and let me just say this about hanson's set (besides how sexy taylor looked that night, too). i really love their backup musicians. i saw the first picture of them on the promo tour and went "where's pete??" but they're pretty badass. especially the backup guitar/keys. because he's always smiling and clapping, and damn he can play. and looking through our walk pictures, the bassist is in a ton of them, filming. and he seems sweet.

SETLIST:
Great Divide
Where's the Love: the nonfan totally thought this was mmmbop and got really excited.
Can't Stop
Been There Before
Georgia: OMG georgia. that was my first thought. my second? "is natalie back, then?" lol. but then i went back to enjoying the hell out of my fighting-for-favorite song on the walk. OH. and he definitely changed the second 2 "georgia"s to "florida"s. it was mega cheesy, but hey, i'm not gonna complain if he wants to sing my state.
Crazy Beautiful: wooooo!
Hole In My Life:

Got A Hold On Me: YES. amazing. amazing.
Go
Mmmbop
When You're Gone: one of my all-time favorite songs, including non-hanson songs. so beautiful. i'll never see it too many times.

Every Word I Say: seriously, taylor misses nat. lol.
Blue Sky
If Only: AWESOME. awesome. keri and i almost died when we were jumping, because there was a beer bottle at our feet, but it would have been worth it. in the height of the break of this song, when we were screaming so loud that it kept sounding like raw electricity in my ear, taylor started to sing happy birthday to zac so we could all join in. it wasn't nearly as cool as last time, but i like that tradition.
Running Man: no monkey this time :(
Let Love Rule
Your Illusion: sweeeet. i know that they've been playing it, but it was still a really cool surprise.
Watch Over Me: isaac didn't start the second verse on time. three times. on the third cue, he went up to the mic and goes "does anyone know how the second verse starts?" and we're all like "haha .. uh .. wait, is he serious?" taylor started to do it, but when he looked at isaac and saw him looking at us, he stopped. when the loop came back, he stepped to the edge of the stage to hear us, and when we all started singing, the lightbulb goes off and he nods and smiles and they finish the song, lol.
Something Going Round: no grunt. i feel special that he gave it to st pete.

Lost Without Each Other
Great Divide (Reprise): with a much shorter intro speech. and there was the cutest brother moment ever, when taylor had the mic - every time he paused at the end of a sentence, isaac reached for the mic and taylor either pretended he didn't exist, or actually pulled his hand away. especially when isaac actually managed to touch it. and i'm talking, maybe 6 times this happened. and whenever he *wasn't* reaching for it, he had his hand sticking out like "see my hand? i want that microphone..." and i'll hand it to isaac, what he said was worth it this time. he quoted nelson mandela when he was onstage at live 8: "sometimes it falls on a generation to be great." chills right through the chorus.

i didn't get any pictures from the show, since they're a bunch of crazies there, but i'll leave with this parting shot:

concerts, hanson, music, pictures
