Stolen from Lommy...now cut for the relief of your friends page!

1. What did you do in 2008 that you've never done before?
Travelled alone.  Drove a stick shift.  Got properly drunk (a bad decision dinosaur if I've ever seen one).

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
No--what's the point?

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Not that I know of.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
No.  A high school classmate of mine died in October, but I hadn't talked to him since graduation.

5. What country did you visit?
Oh god.  Italy, Switzerland, France, Ireland, Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Portugal.  Plus England, but that was more than a visit.

6. What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008?
I dunno--a college degree?

7. What dates from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
May 7th was the date of my Norman and Plantagenet England exam.  Then I left Norwich to meet a friend in Oxford and later go to Portugal.  I don't know why I remember that.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Getting an A on my final paper for Milton and Ethics.  I was so surprised!  Also, I spent a week in Ireland by myself, and I am not an independent person.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Um, my Romanticism exam.  I should have prepared better for it.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I started getting daily headaches starting in September for no apparent reason.  I went to the doctor over Christmas Break and am now on medication to try to get them to stop.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
Um, yarn?  Actually, I just got two lovely new jackets that I wear all the time now, even though they are not appropriate for the weather.  Other than that, probably yarn.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
What does this even mean?

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
That of some friends.  But I don't want to discuss that.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Yarn and travelling.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Travelling, coming home, going back to St. Olaf, not ever having to go back to the factory!!!!!!!

16. What songs will always remind you of 2008?
All that We Let In by the Indigo Girls.  I listened to this song over and over again.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? It's hard to say.  Over all, about the same.  My circumstances are so different now.
ii. thinner or fatter? Fatter. I lost a ton of weight last year and not having to cook for myself means I actually eat.  My laziness wins out over my love of food every single time.
iii. richer or poorer? Poorer.  I spent all my money.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Being active in societies last year.  Being less of a recluse.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Internet crap.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
This year?  I hung out with my mom's family, had a lot of wine, and played ping pong and Wii Bowling.  Next year?  I have no idea where I'll be or what I can afford, so who can say?

21. Did you fall in love in 2008?
Uh, no.

22. How many one-night stands?
None.

23. What was your favorite TV program?
I didn't really watch TV.  Probably the Office or random programs on HGTV.  Also, South Park and Futurama.

24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
No.  But my antipathy towards some people has greatly abated.

25. What was the best book you read?
A People's History of the United States.  Hands down.

26. What was your greatest musical discovery?
I didn't have one.

27. What did you want and got?
Nice yarn.

28. What was your favorite film of this year?
I didn't really have one.  Probably National Treasure 2.  I saw it twice.  I am a loser.

29. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 21.  I went up to visit an Ole friend in Lancaster for the weekend, and we went out to dinner with one of her American friends.  The next day (my actual birthday), I spent 6 hours on a train.

30. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Not working at the factory.

31. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008?
Lazy.  Jeans and some variation of a t-shirt.  Possibly a sweater.

32. What kept you sane?
Knitting.

33. Who did you miss?
My family, my friends.

34. Who was the best new person you met?
Tiff and Sue, some Aussie friends I met in Killarney who now live in London.  Teri and Dave, fellow exchange students and travelling companions.

35. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008
When I take more time on my papers, I get As instead of Bs.  I don't actually know how this works, because I think my papers turn out the same, but apparently my professors don't.
