[015 ☿] Exercise in Futility

Dec 29, 2011 12:58

Mercury waits for her prey, in the shadows. She does nothing to help the victim of an attack, even when a sandy-haired man in a shitennou's uniform extracts a blue crystal from her body and the girl becomes a monster of the Dark Kingdom, one of its seven great warriors ( Read more... )

[ Ange isn't even entirely sure what's going on when she sees the youma cornering the girl. But just the sheer absurdity of suddenly being stuck in this kind of situation reminds her that it's probably just another dream, and in a dream anything is possible, right? Even using Furniture that doesn't even belong to this gameboard. So she could interfere even with a situation like this, one she doesn't belong to, but.. a voice in the back of her head asks her why should she interfere if it's none of her business? ... Then again, why shouldn't she? It's a dream. Nothing wasted, nothing gained, no matter whether she does anything or not.

Besides, standing aside isn't her style, right?

Her eyes almost glaze over for a moment as she mumbles something to herself, standing a small distance away from Mercury and the youma, soft enough for nobody but her to hear it. ]

Come, arise and forgive the sin; the seven stakes of Purgatory.

[ Seven stakes - or well, to people who don't know what they are they might just seem more like metal ice picks ( ... )

[Mercury's attack slams into several youma, clearing them at about the same time Ange's stakes take out theirs. She smirks, coldly, but takes the time to call out as though they both have all the time in the world and this so-called challenge of youma is far beneath them.

They're just youma, after all.]

That was pretty good! Want to take out a few more while I finish up the rest?

[She doesn't wait for an answer before she grips her sword tighter; with the youma approaching even closer, she'll need to clear her path this way now. She slashes it against the air, taking out the ones in the way of the energy blast it releases.]

[ There's something different than the other girl's (near) enthusiasm in Ange - she just looks like she doesn't care either way. There's nothing satisfying or good about killing these youma off, but nothing bad either. They're just monsters, after all.

So the look on her face can only be described as a pokerface when one of the youma notices her too now and approaches, only to be knocked over to the head by a firm kick from the girl and then promptly gouged by seven stakes at the same time before it's taken out. ]

Guess I have no choice. [ Her tone is fairly casual though, given the situation, and the stakes already fly off to take care of more of the youma. ]

Monsters attacking a -somewhat ridiculously dressed- young lady wasn't something Tseng was new to. It isn't something he even needs to hesitate in taking action against, gunfire snapping through the air with rapid succession as he stepped from a side alley.

He holds a hand out as a handful of them decide to try and take care of the new threat, and the temperature plummets for a moment as a large ice crystal forms in midair before crashing to the ground and crushing one. Shards of ice strike others.

"They're not too smart." He comments dryly, unloading the rest of his gun in to a few more.

Unfortunately, already under orders, the youma also aren't likely to obey Mercury this time. It's their loss, really. She has no compunction about killing them. It takes her only a second to calculate that Tseng seems to be fighting on her side, though she makes sure to keep aware of him - just in case.

Then her surprise comes. He uses ice. The soldier of Water is of course entirely familiar with that; but it's extremely rare for her to find others with power over it. He's worth knowing, then.

Her own attack is a blizzard, and the snow and hail cut into the youma (she leave Tseng to get himself out of the way as best he can), it also starts to encase them. As the ice shatters, so do the monsters encased in it. She smirks, triumphant.

"Never were!" she calls out to Tseng.

It would have been bad Public Relations if he hadn't done anything, and they've had more than enough of that to deal with. Besides, wholesale moster extermination can be highly cathartic.

"How reassuring." He replied, skidding on the unexpected ice and nearly toppling over. He recovered, shifting his stance to keep balanced.

She considers it very reassuring; after all, it means the youma won't be able to form any sort of coherent strategy to fight effectively. She doesn't need to worry about them anyway, though.

"Are you saying you want them to be tougher opponents instead?" This comes around slicing one ambitious youma in two. She could understand a yes. Nephrite would have grumbled about what a lack of challenge this was right away.
