So we know Usopp is "already negative," which is generally read in light of his character as possible/probable depression. We also know that Brook spent decades wanting to die (including that moment against Ryuuma where he wished he had), but didn't.

Anon would like a serious interaction fic between the two - or a cute one if you prefer. Just something with Usopp and Brook and this thing they kinda have in common. Does Usopp need to talk to someone who's experienced this and survived it? Does Brook have one of his serious moments and recognize that something's not right with this kid? Or something else entirely.

I like this idea, anon, and would love to try it since I myself went through a stage where I was seriously depressed and I'm a pessimist/negative person at heart. I've never written Brook before but this could probably be my opportunity to do so if you'll let me try *cracks fingers*

Anon loves Brook to bits, and is always happy to see more writers give him a try. Looking forward to it!

And now for something completely different anonymous March 19 2009, 21:32:11 UTC
There are certain characters that always get "paired off" even in platonic fics - Luffy and Usopp hanging out, Sanji and Zoro bickering, Usopp and Franky building stuff, etc. Why not more love for the characters fanfic doesn't normally throw together? What about Nami and Robin going shopping, or dealing with looking after their kookier male crewmates? Luffy and Franky silliness? Chopper and Sanji? Brook and Nami (they do seem to get along decently when he's not pissing her off)? Pick a dynamic you don't write often, and let's see how it goes. :)

YES. I like this idea enormously. Second!

something completely different: Chopper side (1/2) anonymous May 10 2009, 16:56:48 UTC
Anon who seconded had a go, picking Nami and Chopper. I totally think it would be interesting to see more attempts. I realised I don't ever write this dynamic at all and it was surprisingly hard to think up any ways they would interact.

I hope this fits in the gaps between canon, because I re-read the manga and tried to do so, but am still not sure.

Nami is working on the final version of her map of Drum Island. Slowly, painstakingly, in stolen hours in between reassuring Vivi and terrorising the crew. Chopper's taken to watching her work.

The first time she saw him peeping past the edge of the door (or not) she smiled and slyly said, "Come in and take a closer look, if you want. Do you like maps?"

He started to shake his head, then caught himself and panicked a little from realising he was going to have to speak to explain after all, because he didn't not like maps; he'd just never really... used one. A reindeer has a nose to help them find their way around, better than any human attempt to compensate poor directional ( ... )

Nami knows what he's up to, sneaking in to stare at the map when she isn't there, but she understands what homesickness is. After all, she spent so many years fighting for her home, only to so easily leave it once the fight was won. She knows their little reindeer doctor's situation isn't so very different ( ... )

The character of your choice is injured and temporarily unable to perform their daily duties aboard the ship. But the job must still be done! Who steps in for them, and how badly do they fail at it?

OP: AWWWWWWWWWWWWW. Leave it to poor sugar-addict Chopper to endure everything but a badly-made cake. And mad props for epic Zoro fail and Sanji stubbornly eating it anyway because it's food.

In short...awwwwww. Awwwwwww. This is win. Stupid Strawhat family win.

Awwww, poor Zoro! Nobody would even try his monster cake.

Very cute!

I would like to see something done with Shakky, present or past. Anything, really. Maybe about her relationship with Rayleigh (can be moved to other thread if anon wants to write smut or Teen)? Maybe she runs into Blueno (or Makino but I don't see how) for bartender talk? Maybe hanging out with Supernovas or Hachi and Caimie? If anyone's interested but wants more things to work with, let me know and I'll try to think of something. ;)

...Oh, and art would be great, too., of course

The entire crew embarks on doomed escapades to try to reveal Sanji's left eye. Sanji is completely unaware of what they are trying to do, but they still manages to screw up their plans each time.
It should start out with just Luffy and Usopp and Chopper, but the entire crew gets pulled in through failed plans that somehow backfire on them one at a time, and they realize they're curious too, or they wanna show the schemers how you're really supposed to execute a plan.
At the end, the last person to be pulled in (Zoro? he seems to fit the role) just rolls over and asks Sanji. And Sanji just shows them. There should be something surprising behind the fringe, whether it be the cliche missing eye, something creative, or legasp, nothing strange at all!
No pairings please.

ahaha...Sounds like that episode in Naruto where the kids tried to uncover Kakashi's eye...

anonymous August 1 2009, 15:53:24 UTC
haha, oops, Op didn't know that, she doesn't watch Naruto.
But haven't they known what was on his eye for like ever?

Actually... anonymous September 2 2009, 09:26:33 UTC
Actually, they were trying to figure out what was beneath his mask. You're right, they knew what his other eye was early on, but what's underneath Kakashi's mask has yet to be revealed.

I'm under the hopeful delusion that Oda (OP) and Kishimoto (Naruto) are going to team up and reveal the two great mysteries together in a cross-over so awesome people's heads explode.

Probably not, but you never know...
