Meanwhile, on the Hitler Channel...

Mar 29, 2008 21:13

Spotted on one of the many Discovery channels this evening, a helpful overlaid title indicating that this is apparently "Hitler and the Nazi's Weekend".

(Of course, now I'm wondering which Nazi. Perhaps there was some kind of mythic ur-Nazi whom my history teachers somehow neglected to mention?)

Oh, see, you misunderstand. This evening, they're showing the somewhat beloved children's classic, Hitler and the Nazi's Weekend.

The scene with the sorting shirt is not to be missed.

It's the wackiest buddy comedy ever! Hitler and the Nazi get blackmailed into helping a Jew escape from Germany! You won't believe the funny! Check out the great scene where Hitler dresses up as a Gypsy boat salesman, it was the inspiration for all of Rob Schneider's schtick.

Was this the 1987 remake? I was really disappointed by Gaumont's effort to appeal to the 13-18 demographic when the original was more of a Russo-Finnish Pippi Longstocking for boys.

It was the 1987, yes. I'm just far more familiar with that, as USA Up All Night used to show it constantly (it's only just recently I was able to get a copy WITHOUT Gilbert Gottfried intros), usually right after The Pink Chiquitas.

Whereas I think the original was hard to find unless you were in Europe or had a Beta VCR, at least until that Criterion Collection DVD came out.

I will agree the original had the better final chase scene - the remake adding a pie fight just made it one too many coincidences, I think.

How come he didn't appear in Hitler vs. Stalin, eh? A terrible oversight, that.
