I know Ironman Triathletes who are diabetic.

There are Olympic champions who are diabetic.

Millions of people live with diabetes every day and they can do anything they want to do as long as they are managing it well. monitoring blood glucose, paying close attention to food input/calorie output and taking meds as directed.

Your family needs to back off a bit. Fresh air, healthy activity and stress relief are GOOD for you!

As long as you're testing often and prepared to treat hypo or hyper glycemia with glucose or insulin, you should be fine.

I actually have to agree with your family on ONE POINT...you need to take better care of yourself if your blood sugar got that high. But, I stil think you should go have fun camping this weekend, just be careful and check oftern (like you said you were going to!) ! =)
