[post camp au] standardized testing

Even though the Director had long since stopped communicating, things like the barrier and the gorillas were eternal, ten years later. And the animals still stuck to their morning rituals, like going around and trying to break into every cabin every morning. It was a good time as any to start off the school day, or at least, what little formal school there was in camp. It wasn't precisely mandatory to attend, but most parents preferred that their offspring at least be able to read and write, and some preferred a more comprehensive education.

"Standards," Ronan intoned at the pile of blankets, "are a part of the legacy that your mother and I intend to pass onto you. Even though she would argue that I am the most insane man she's ever met, and I'd argue that she's still just a Yank, we do agree on this. And that is that you need to know at least some of this stuff. And that means getting up to go to lessons."

The pile of blankets said nothing, rather pointedly.

Ronan bent over. "C'mon now. We don't want you to have to skate by on your looks. What would the Wrathru say?"

The blanket stirred. "Daaaad."

"Don't pout at me, boy. Up we get. Today is about frogs, I understand."

A young boy poked his head out of the blankets, staring doubtfully. "But I wanted to go fishing today with Uncle Kitten."

"After you've done your lessons to Ms. Yoko's standards. C'mon Spark."

With a well rehearsed sigh, Spark pulled himself fully upright. "Yes, dad."
