For the Frontier people, settling on the Vajra planet was still like a dream come true. However, transferring the buildings off of Island-1 and onto the new environment would take, at least, a few more months to complete. Hence, Michel wasn’t exactly sure where he could take Kasumi. Most of the Macross’ landmarks were still in-development which ( Read more... )

Kasumi laughed softly at his rather subtle compliment. "I am glad you enjoyed it." Actually, she'd been concerned she'd added a bit too much spice to the broth, or too little green onion, but so long as he had liked it she needn't worry. There was even some of the batch left over back at the temple, perhaps she would leave it for him this evenning.

This place was so different! Kasumi had been many places and to many different worlds, but they had all been an Earth or something like it. Never had she visited a place where space travel was possible. It was quite exciting, even if the buildings looked familiar in the way of modern cities. She hadn't asked but she had wondered, "What is this place called?"

Waiting in line would be quite all right; she was in good company. Though she did wonder what it was they were waiting for.

Michel was good at reading people and could sense her quiet curiosity. As much as he wanted to tell her what he had planned, part of him wanted to keep it a surprise. Just as he hadn't expected a bowl of ramen to appear in his fridge, a nice surprise like this was his way of saying 'thank you' in equal measure.

"The wait shouldn't be too long, Tendou-san. But ah, welcome to the Frontier... or at least, what's left of it."

It was hard to elaborate without giving her the full history of cityships and all of that in general. But if she was interested to hear about that, Michel wouldn't mind telling her.

"Everyone's still getting used to living on a planet."

"You are not used to a planet...?" Kasumi came to a stop behind the last person in line and looked up at him, eyes wide and mouth open slightly. "Oh my, what was it like, living in space?"

The Frontier was an apt name for colonization - there were worlds with odder names and odder habitat, such as Wonderland- and she wanted to hear about how they had come here, where they had traveled from, as much as Michel had time to tell her before they reached the front of the line.

"Hm? Oh, well, since there were a lot of bioplants around... it was like a small planet. Obviously it wasn't the same as an actual planet but it did a fairly good impersonation. The sky and the plants, I don't really know how to describe it but it was like living in a forest surrounded by potted plants. You grow up thinking they're real trees."

Space travelling was a hard to think to put into words. The Macross was a ship but it didn't feel like one when you were inside it. Michel never saw it as a cage like Alto did. He was content with the ship. But Alto was right. Their limited sky was no match for an endless one.
