Character Notes:
History:
» When Mikhail was a child his parents died in an accident. This left his older sister, Jessica, to raise the both of them. His childhood, at that moment seemed peaceful. Mikhail became good friends with a Zentradi (alien giants) named Klan Klan.

» Mikhail's sister then went on to become a talented sniper employed by the military. However, over the years, she engaged in an affair with one of her superior. When he broke it off to avoid his wife finding out, he and Jessica were immediately sent onto a mission. During the mission, there was friendly fire on Jessica's part resulting in the death of her superior and ex-lover. When Jessica's affair was discovered however, she was court-martialled for the implication of intentionally killing him which lead her to end her own life.

» Jessica's act of friendly was what motivated, Mikhail to join the military in order to find the true reason for her actions.

» Time-skip into the beginning of the series where Mikhail is in his third-year of high school and also secretly in the SMS, the Strategic Military Services, as a second-lieutenant sniper pilot. He still has a close relationship with Klan Klan and has a budding friendship with co-pilot, Luca Angellioni, both in the SMS. However, its Mikhail's friendly rivalry with Alto Saotome that's important. In its initial stages, Mikhail was just the popular, skilled upperclassmen who enjoyed teasing Alto, much to his dismay. Especially coming up with the viral "Princess Alto" nickname. It isn't until the humongous Vajra come to town that that dynamic changes.

» After Alto comes face-to-face with a Vajra, saves Ranka then is subsequently saved by the Skull Squadron (consisting of Ozma, Ranka's brother, Mikhail and Luca) he gets that heroic urge to save the world but is punched in the face denied that opportunity. Come the second time where everything happens again but with Sheryl's also joined in for the fun, Alto is determined to join. Realizing that he's seen too much, Ozma reluctantly accepts but Mikhail is still convinced that Alto is both unready and too much of a flight risk.

» However, Alto is determined to prove Mikhail wrong and joins the SMS anyway. Mikhail and Alto then have their own special yet friendlier relationship when Alto joins and Mikhail acts like a drill sergeant. As Alto integrates himself into the SMS and consistently proves himself as a formidable pilot, Mikhail both grows more jealous and respectful towards him. The two finally become mutual friends when Alto learns about Mikhail's past and Mikhail is successful in their mission.

» A lot of other general development, that doesn't really personally affect but involve him anyway, happens. During a particular episode, Mikhail helps Ranka get discovered by forcing her to come out of her shell and to seize opportunities to become a singer, even though he was a a bit dickish about it. Then other stuff like flying into Gallia-4, a planet that's right on the brink of war, as Ranka sings a song that both calms them down and increases her chances to be with Alto. And for a lot of episodes, Mikhail becomes increasingly annoyed by Alto's general clueless nature about Sheryl and Ranka whilst trying to get him to just pick one.

» However, when Mikhail is in Gallia-4, he picks up a tiny pill called "639 Witch Craft" where he is the first to catch onto some of the insidious behind-the-scene bad guys plot. Mikhail begins to suspect Grace, the pill and even Luca who is unknowingly doing some intense Vajra research for the Leon (and Grace, the bad guys). To get more information on this pill, Mikhail calls upon his trusty partner Klan Klan. The two discover Grace's past as a scientist as well as Sheryl's, who has become increasingly sicker, true disease. Sheryl finds out when they find out and makes them swear not to tell Alto.

» Sheryl's act of love, motivate Mikhail to confront him about the triangle issue for the last time. While it motivates Klan to start asking Mikhail the same question about themselves.

» Then it is discovered that an entire colony of Vajra have been living on the ship. All hell then suddenly breaks out. Vajras are everywhere. Alto, Mikhail, Klan Klan, Luca and Ranka both go into the SMS base for more weapons. During all this chaos though, Klan Klan finally confesses her true feelings for Mikhail and kisses him. This surprises him (and just about everyone else who watches) and she runs off to transform into her real Zentradi self. During this process though, Vajras infiltrate the base and attack her as she transforms. Mikhail attempts to ward them off and kill them, but is penetrated by a Vajra's tail through the chest. He is able to shoot it down. Then there is a hole in the barrier, which sucks Mikhail out into space before anyone has the chance to save him. And I'm pretty sure this history is confusing but I'm really tired…

Personality:
What makes a sniper rifle distinguishable from all the other types of firearms is it's telescopic scope. A telescopic scope magnifies the intended target area allowing the shooter additional accuracy. Mikhail is the personification of a sniper rifle. "I can take anything down in one shot, be it targets or girls." Well, that's basically Mikhail Blanc described by Mikhail Blanc.

Other than priding himself on being a skilled marksmen, Mikhail countlessly claims that its his "sniper" eyes that that are his most prized possession, both literally and figuratively. Most people assume Mikhail wears glasses because he needs them. But what most people don't know is that a) his glasses are merely corrective in order to preserve his vision and b) Mikhail is able to see just as clearly without them (in the movie, Mikhail counts more than two thousands night stars without his glasses). Now, figuratively, Mikhail has been noted on more than one occasion for being incredibly observational and intuitive with people. And if Macross were another series, Mikhail definitely would have the skill-set to be an effective mystery-solving aficionado.

Mikhail understands people, their motivations, what they can't see for themselves or what they're trying desperately to hide. Rarely does he ever call people out on their actions, but Mikhail has a short tolerance for the naïve and the ignorant. Mikhail doesn't hesitate to make it bluntly clear what a character's fault are like when Ranka blamed Ozma's lack of faith for hindering her dreams of becoming a singer and Mikhail argued that Ranka was simply finding excuses because she simply wasn't courageous enough to just sing in front of people. Or when Alto decided to become join the SMS and Mikhail expressed his doubt, saying Alto simply wants to join because it seems noble rather than joining because he's determined and fully understands the risk and danger he would get himself into. In both cases, though, Mikhail is gladfully proven wrong and it is implied that Mikhail's word (repeated in both Ranka's and Alto's minds) were all the motivation they needed.

Oh, and of course, let's not forget how Mikhail treats the ladies! When it comes to women, Mikhail turns the charm up to eleven. His lines are either cheesy yet flattering (he 'mistook' a bunch of groupies for Sheryl) or minimal and effective ("you're so beautiful") and end with an award winning smile. Mikhail has a reputation for dating older, gorgeous women and flirts with them more than he would younger girls. While he doesn't dislike them, younger girls tend to be childishly stubborn which is a big turn-off for him. Most of the time though, when Mikhail is around women he stays in a permanent friendly-flirt mode; he enjoys teasing and flustering girls but is also respectable to women who don't enjoy getting hit on. Even still, Mikhail is a ladies man and it's implied that he's been with many.

But every coin has two sides. Being a good sniper and a ladies' man does have its disadvantages. Both qualities stem from his sister's suicide. Mikhail's sister meant a lot to him, he followed in her footsteps as a military sniper to learn the reasons of her misfire. He heavily associates being a sniper with his sister and when Grace briefly mentions Jessica to Mikhail, it dramatically affects his abilities as a sniper. Furthermore, the fact that Jessica killed her lover after he had broken off their affair, made Mikhail fearful of commitment. He's been afraid of being so close to someone that losing them would drive him to do the same things as his sister.

In his final moments though, Mikhail seems to have overcome all of these faults. While he was determined to find the truth behind Jessica's friendly fire, it seems he has comes to terms to what may or may not have happened. And most importantly, Mikhail was able to confess his love to the one woman who was always by his side.

First Person (entry type):
100 comments on my last post? Well, don't I feel especially popular. I bet it's the most anyone's ever received.

Or… am I wrong? Maybe some of you have had more than that. Community, why don't you enlighten me? I wonder what topics generate popular discussion? Is it sex? What about if everyone talks about the largest number of comments they've ever received, maybe someone can see who the most popular member is? Maybe place bets?

Only kidding. Though I would be honestly surprised if Sheryl or Ranka-chan don't place in the top five. Where I'm from, pop stars are generally fawned over, especially the talented, beautiful ones.

Third Person:
As Mikhail's reached to the top of the escalator, he let an out an audible sigh before stepping off. Playing babysitter and being generally dragged about by a moody teenager wasn't the ideal way of spending his afternoon, but… he didn't mind that. What he minded was where she was dragging him. Why, why here? Why the Zentran mall of place? Fighting the urge to look over his shoulder, Mikhail kept his sights and focus locked on Ranka. Ranka managed to keep her distance from him as she marched forward. Mikhail wasn't sure whether Ranka knew where the ice cream standing was, but he knew she was being simply to stubborn to ask.

"How did I get dragged into this again?" he muttered quietly.

Mikhail knew the answer but even just thinking it would make him more frustrated. With one hand pushing his glasses upwards and the other in his pocket, he casually followed her. From behind, Mikhail couldn't help but study her. The way she walked: staring at the tip of shoes, arms swinging about like a toy soldier whilst occasionally glancing at signs that might show her where the soft ice is… It was as if Ranka regressed to a five-year-old, finished crying yet was still acting out. Ranka was a smart, sweet girl. They way Nanase talked about her at school, the way Ozma descried her and the first impression she gave all supported this. And Mikhail always thought there was more to that.

Mikhail's been to Nyan Nyan, countless times, and while the food was delicious, the restaurant was usually over capacity. It's a daily challenge for most of the waiters to serve food and since Ranka can proudly she's one of them, just tells him how responsible and mature she was. And with a brother like the Captain, Ranka has probably learned to rely on herself over the years.

So what was different?

The girl who talked only in complaints, taking for granted what her brother has done and is willing to do for her… The girl who claimed she needed Alto's consolidation, and the fact that that she ran away from home just to see him… Mikhail had to wonder if this was really Ranka? Was she always this co-dependent?

Mikhail stopped in his tracks, both in step and in thought, before calling out to Ranka. She turned to him, genuinely confused and a little startled. Smiling in response, he lifted his right index finger, pointing to a small stall on the opposite side of the mall.

"Ice cream stall is this way, Ranka-chan." He paused, then indicated at the large distance between them. "But my, that's a large gap. Does this mean you've changed your mind?"

That definitely got her attention.
