Casino Drive has been scratched from the Belmont, as I sort of had the nagging suspicion he would.  Stone bruise + mile and a half race = nothing good.  If Spectacular Bid couldn't do it after a safety pin injury, Casino Drive wasn't going to do it with a stone bruise.  At least, that's my reasoning.  Now I'll go cheer for Anak Nakal and ( Read more... )

Agreed. If he wins, he wins. Great for the horse, bad for the connections. Honestly, if he was still with his first trainer, I'd feel totally different about the horse.

I have to say, I felt a little bad seeing him eased up and come in last. Although not at all bad for the trainer. Karma...it will just kick you in the ass.

Yeah, but I also kind of like him a little more now...he did look awfully upset and worried in the post race interviews.

What do you make of the race?

I feel no different for Dutrow, really. As far as I'm concerned his reaction is as expected, although I am pleased to see the horse appears all right upon first inspection and I hope it's nothing more than failing to show up, or, at a stretch, failing to perform without steroids in his system.

In terms of the race, the horse looked extremely upset between coming out of the gate and hitting the first turn. I don't know if it had something to do with being blocked immediately or what, but he was checked and moved clear and then ran rank all through the turn...and that was it. He settled in the backstretch but I think he was done halfway through. Da' Tara had a perfect, if slow trip. So kudos to him. And I hope Big Brown comes back so Curlin can beat him later. ;)

Me too. You know, it's not really about the horse; I have no bad feelings about the horse, I don't want the bar shoe to throw him off or anything. (Oops, wrong horse.) But his trainer is such an ass. It occurred to me yesterday, at the gym, that I feel exactly the same way about Big Brown as I do about Champion.

Yeah, I think I'm with you on this one. Big Brown and Champion are really in the same club.

Too good to be true? And too annoying to be taken seriously?

A lot of both, I think. And that Cindy's there, taking any shred of what might have been okay about Champion and ripping it systematically into tiny, horrible shreds.
