So hoist up the John B sail,. .. (open RP for boat trip people)

This is not, in fact, the worst boat trip Henry Hellrung has ever been on. It's not even the weirdest -- that honor would go to the second-season wrap party from the old Iron Man show, which had involved Aaron Spelling's yacht, Tony Stark's liquor, scheduled appearances by the West Coast Avengers, and surprise appearances by Thor and all of his ( Read more... )

Stetins is having some deep and meaningful discussion with Lorna and the nanny looks as though she might kill Sally if she starts another bubble fight with the kids. So Sally is meandering around on the deck, wearing her gray Ariel dress over an orange bikini and scrolling through her ipod. She's about to find a spot in the sun to lay when she spots Mr. Hellrung sitting by himself.

She's been wanting to talk to him since they all boarded. He's Lorna's new guy and so far everyone--well, Ms. Potts and Mr. Stark--have endorsed him as a really good guy. And while she trusts their judgment, or well, Ms. Potts judgment, she still wants to make her own opinion of him. He'd been polite at dinner, a little quiet but that really hadn't given her all that much to go on.

"Hello, Mr. Hellrung." She doesn't sit down beside him yet, waiting to see if he'll give permission. "May we talk?"

There, that seemed to be pretty polite.

Henry looks up to see Sally -- Lorna's friend, Bruce's . . .what is she, his ward? Is that a real thing? He met her last night at dinner. She seems like a good kid, and -- although he could tell it annoyed Lorna -- he can't help being sympathetic that her main reaction to Kara's rant was to laugh at the whole situation. It speaks well of her sanity.

Putting a marker in his book, he sets it down and smiles up at her. "Hi, Sally." He gestures to the empty chair beside him for her to take a seat, and, with the training of years of partying followed by years in self-help groups, he casts around for something unique about her to comment on. Seeing her dress, he says, "You -- ahh -- like Disney?" The way it comes out doesn't even sound like a grievance.

Sally drops down into the chair beside him and smiles brightly. She has a decent head on her shoulder considering how incredibly messed up she could be.

"Yeah. I KNOW its supposed to be for kids or whatever but I'm a fan. Never actually like been to a park though." She's nearly been twice now but neither came to fruition. "I'm more of an Ariel fan than total Disney fan though. Ariel, the little mermaid." She points to the small graphic of the princess on her dress.

She couldn't tell you what her relationship is to Bruce either, Mr. Hellrung, so don't worry about trying to identify it. "Are you enjoying the boat?"

Its a question she's asking everyone. She really hopes people are having fun. There really isn't any need for drama which is why she laughed last night instead of being offended.

"Oh, it's hardly just for kids." Henry smiles. "I know Lorna's a big fan -" Or well, she used to be. He almost mentions Becky, as well, but remembers in time that Lorna advised against this.

Leaning back in his chair, he says, "The trip has been good. I need a vacation more than I realized, and Lorna. . ." He stops, and feels his face warm a little at the memory of the spectacle his girlfriend had made of them the night before. "Lorna's having a good time, too," he says quickly. "And this trip is for her. What about you? Are you enjoying it?"

"Henry!"

There she is, Julie Madison, armed with a bottle of some sort of fortified water and a few magazines, waving at him from her deckchair.

"Henry - Good Morning, Henry! Is the weather beautiful. Don't you just feel happy to be alive today?"

This is the buzz you get from fortified water and a morning of chanting as you watch the sun come up. Bruce had declined to join her - claiming her hadn't slept well the night before. Julie had slept like the dead. She always did after a night with Bruce.

Here's the nice thing about Julie Madison: Henry is almost 100 percent sure he's never had sex with her. There are plenty of names and faces in Hollywood that he can't say that about, with any degree of certainty. But Julie didn't come on the scene until after Iron Man had been canceled and Henry had sobered up. He hadn't even met her until last night at dinner, which makes him fairly sure that she's never been through any major substance abuse treatment (he'd met just about every celeb who went that route, at some point or other).

So Henry has a fresh start with Julie, which is a good thing to have. And this morning, he's in a basically good mood, and willing to give the benefit of the doubt that she actually is the abnormally nice person she appears to be.

He smiles back at her. "Hello. Did you -- umm -- sleep well?"

"Like a baby - I always sleep well on - "

Bruce.

"The water. How about you? You escaped from dinner before we even had a chance to talk properly - though it was good to catch up with Lorna, I've always enjoyed her company."

Sunglasses get pushed up to her forehead, even though she has to squint a little in the sun. Eye contact is very import to expressing sincerity in your interactions with others. And smiling puts people at ease.

"I got up at dawn this morning to see the sunrise. Beautiful. I just can't understand those people who sleep their day away."

Julie really is preternaturally cheerful and Henry, with his not insignificant experience around drug users, is pretty sure she isn't even chemically altered. He can't entirely escape the suspician that there's probably some dark, unhappy complexity lurking behind the smile. But at the moment he's distracted by her reference to a prior acquaintance with Lorna ( ... )

Harry, like Julie, had slept like the dead until the kids woke him up. Well, Addie woke up, which motivated him to go in and check on her brother in the kids room. He enjoyed the morning with Kara and the kids before parting ways after brunch. Kara wanted the jacuzzi, and Harry figured he would go be social ( ... )

All things considered, Henry finds himself deeply regretting a recent conversation with Jean-Paul Beaubier. Jean-Paul had insisted that he, being an attractive young man, could always tell when a guy liked to sleep with other guys, by the way they did (or didn't) look at him.

This was relevant to the current moment, because Harry Osborn was really damn pretty -- which, he was pretty sure, was only occurring to him because of that conversation with Jean-Paul. That and the fact that, considering the tension between him and Kara, her husband was the least appropriate person he could be noticing. Not that noticing amounted to anything, besides adding a personal element to the general awkwardness.

Really, they were all adults here.

So, trying not to give Harry a look of any discernible significance, Henry set his book aside and said, "Sure thing. Bruce said I might be able to join the two of you, later, for fishing?"

Harry can usually tell if someone is attracted to him, but he has this thing about be oblivious to stuff too. Case in point he would never assume anyone dating Lorna would be interested in him. So he'd be oblivious to any signs of it. Also, he is the king of 'just because I'm married doesn't mean I'm blind' so it's perfectly natural to check someone out or admire their appearance. He has a crush on Tony Stark, but he doesn't feel guilty as he's convinced his wife has a crush on him too ( ... )

Funny story. Henry doesn't possess a lot of superlatives, among the guests on this cruise. He's not the wittiest or best-looking, certainly not the richest, and he wouldn't possess the best superpowers, even if he weren't on power-down/hiatus. Even on a good day, Lorna could kick his ass; possibly Harry or Kara, too. And their host (albeit unbeknownst to anyone on board) is renowned for his ability to take anyone down, even if the odds stack against him on paper. The goddamn Batman beats everybody ( ... )

"Hey you," Henry says, giving her an admiring look -- she's well worth admiring. In answer to her question, he reaches out to touch her hip, and starts to steer her toward his lap. "Hope you had a good morning --" And, in a lower voice, as she moves closer to him. "I hope you had a good night. You were really something, Lorna Dane."

He pulls her down to kiss him, only hoping once he's spoken, that it didn't sound like he was saying, Wow, you can get really freaky when we're on your ex's yacht.. Which he's pretty sure is not what he meant.

Is it bad that Henry's gut reaction is, 'You clearly don't know Pepper'?

It's probably bad. At least he doesn't say it. He's got better things on his mind (and in his lap) than Stark Industries motivational techniques.

Pulling her down against him to kiss her behind the ear, he says, "I'm glad you're not still upset about dinner." He almost adds, Aren't you glad you're not one of those women anymore? But it would be pretty hypocritical, given his own history -- with billionaires and party girls alike. Also, he's not completely certain that she is unequivocally glad and isn't quite ready to put it to the test. Instead, he touches her face, and whispers, "You're the most beautiful person on this boat, I hope you know that." That he's sure is true.
