The world feeds on shock and sadness. If someone truly lived happily ever after, would they advertise it?

I don't think the phrase is meant to imply anything after death.

There's no such thing as "happily ever after" and only stories ever really end. People keep on going, with all these new beginnings.

Some would like even say that death is a new beginning.
