...is thin.  It's damned thin.  Not that I would have it any other way, at this -- or any other -- time of the year.

I've just had lunch, on this lovely day of yellow leaves and perfect fluffy clouds, with my young friend E.  I've been something of a mentor and friend to her since she was in her early teens.  She'll turn twenty-three tomorrow.   ( Read more... )

It is infinitely sweeter, living and loving in this world, having learned well the precious and painful impermanence of the blessings that we call life and love.

As we call our beloved dead this Friday, let us give thanks to them for teaching us this lesson so painful. That we may now love more fully with pure and open hearts not deluded by youthful ideals of permanence.

They are the wisest ones, let us pay them heed.

I didn't know Jake as a young lad. Only as a snippet of a pre-teen who got to say a particular swear word on his 13th birthday after a treasure hunt for his present.

He is sorely missed.
