Yesterday's big question to Ma

Feb 03, 2009 23:30

I didn't want to write of it because, well, I'm horribly ashamed for having such feelings. But I knew that Ma would not only understand, she would give me the go-ahead and thumbs-up or whatever it was I needed when I asked her if I could shoot the damned squirrels. Do not think ill of me for having such thoughts and do understand that I would ( Read more... )

if you put vaseline or a similiar substance on the pole that the birdfeeders are on the squirrels can't climb up and get into the birdfeeders plus it is highly amusing to watch

I do that. Unfortunately, they've discovered ways to launch straight to the feeders--from the compost bin, from the window ledge, from logs I have saved. I'd move the feeders, but unless I move them to somewhere that I can't even see them, they'll have other items to launch from. I'm right up against a very wooded area, so they'd just launch from the trees if I were to move them farther away from my window.

It really was highly amusing to watch them try to climb the pole when I first discovered the Vaseline trick. I wish they hadn't outsmarted me or that trick so quickly.

mr. neighbour is very toxic.
i guess the think to remember in this is that all animals are hungry in the winter...and it is their nature to flock to the nearest food source. it is difficult for all animals to get food out of the cold, hard ground, especially if ther is snow. i think often people think squirrels are pests, but really, i think they are very intelligent - using tools, their skills...to get to food.

Mr. Neighbor is indeed very toxic. I am often calling my mother or my sister crying, saying I need to get away from him. They sort of console me, pointing out that he is my only friend here, so I go right back to it. For the love of God, the man has tried to choke me to death (so much so that his neighbor called 9-1-1 on the incident) and then used me as a punching bag (that got me fractured ribs), verbally abuses me every single day, and yet my family defends him. Hell, I defend him. I don't know what's wrong with me.

Well, the things I remember are the abusive things. That's why I can't feel a lot of sympathy for him. When you were writing about his brother dying, I felt..how tragic...however, I am sure there is a reason they are estranged. And, it is not right that he expects that you are his resolution for this - his driver, his financer, his supporter. This is not your life, nor your issue. I am not a cold hearted person but I am really realistic ( ... )

How are we late for all of these things? Or is that just for your area? Many of your "huh's" are flowers..and I don't think edible ones....so don't fret over those! I need to do my seed order and plan also...I'm just so stopped up because of not knowing if we'll be here during the growing season or if we'll be fortunate enough to be in a new house...I guess I should just plan for here and hope for the best. Where are you ordering your seeds from?

I get seeds from either Fedco (in Maine), Baker Creek (they have funky heirloom stuff) (in Pennsylvania, I believe?), Gardens Alive (they're new to me and I'm not sure where they are located -- my sister (in a suburb of Seattle) raves about them) or just at the local garden shop or grocery store. I like to use organic and/or heirloom veggie and herb seeds (since I'll be consuming them). Flowers, I'm not so particular about.
