So...there's a news article about a terrorist plot that was stopped in New York City. These bastards, and they are bastards, were all born here in the US and converted to radical Islam in Prison. They planned to destroy two Synagogues and shoot down military planes. Now, I'd like to give credit where credit is due. The article says this ( Read more... )

I fail to see how recruitment such as what you have described above differs from that done by the Aryan Nation or other groups within the US prison system. Personally I think it all is indicative of our county's jail system not focusing enough on rehabilitation thus making it one big crime school. This is not a problem that is isolated to Islamic extremists within our jails.

Our crime and terror prevention efforts focusing more on the symptom of the problem than on the cause, until we fix that our problems will only escalate.

There is one main difference that you overlooked. We're currently at war with people of a radical Islamic faith. We're not at war with neo-nazis or other radical groups in prisons.

As for the symptoms versus the cause. When the previous President tried to go after the cause, he was accused of lying or going to war for Oil. We did go into Afghanistan first, then into Iraq.

Also, if you look at it from an ideology versus religion aspect, one can argue (and I don't agree with it) that the radical Islam that is pushed in prison is still the Islamic faith, whereas what the Aryan Nation or Black Panthers (or any other hate group) teaches hatred couched in a religion. I reiterate. I don't agree with that argument. But that is the one that groups like CAIR and the ACLU bring up when the subject of stemming that in prison is brought up. They talk of Freedom of Religion and they should be allowed to teach their religion how they see fit.

But, I do agree, there does need to be a better way to guard against this in the Prison system.
