Is Mac British? I've never heard "shufti" outside the UK.

Yeah, Mac's British. And nobody seems to understand what he's saying at all.

Reading over the cartoon again, I can see four other clues to this that I'd missed on my first reading because they seemed perfectly normal.

*sigh*

Silly companies. I want the taste not the color to be brilliant.

Yeah, the articles go on to describe other techniques including adding particular chemicals to chicken feed so that the egg yolks will be a certain colour. I think we'd all be amazed if we found out all the things we eat so that our food looks more presentable.

eeww. I wonder where else they use bugs for colouring!?

Well, the only other product they name specifically is Good & Plenty Candies, but loads of products seem to used them. Just look for "carmine" on the ingredient list.

I like that Snopes points out that one of the other main sources of red dye (Red #40) does not come from bugs at all and is instead derived from coal.

Coal? I think I'd almost prefer the bugs!

Remember, bug extracts are still classified as an all-natural food.

To be honest, knowing that I eat bugs in yogurt doesn't bother me.

Maybe because I have a knowledge of a lot of different foods and how they're made.

Nothing like food prep to make you want to diet.

Absolutely.

And I'm not even fast-food food prep. There are some people at work who I just won't eat what they make. Ever. Not even to taste.

Ew! At first I was horrified. Then I remember that I eat dead cows and I chilled out.

But, damn, are those dead cows yummy!

Mmmmmm. Yummy, yummy cows!
