Peeves & that other certainty in life

First off, taxes are finally on their way. I prefer to be done by now, but stuff came up (besides life stuff, I couldn't find last year's return and needed some data from it to finish this year's return...and of course Maryland requires data from your federal return rather than your W-2s like a reasonable state). Anyhow, we're not getting close ( Read more... )

I really like the self-serve tills, except in Asda where they are for some reason much more bossy than other places and where the person in front of me always seem to have bought alcohol (which needs to be checked by one of the staff to prove you're not underage). Or people who wander off half way through to get more stuff!

In Maryland, Delaware, and Pennsylvania (the three closest states), alcohol cannot be sold anywhere but approved liquor stores. So, we don't have to worry too much about that. Of course, grocery/department stores do tend to sell cigarettes which have to be age verified.

I had a wander-off the other day. I'm just staring at this person while they walk away from their checked purchases to look through the shelves a little more. I always say that people never surprise me anymore, but somehow, they find a way.

The recent Simpsons DVD's have the option of playing the deleted scenes within the episodes from which they were deleted (by means of pressing a button when an icon shows up on the screen), as well as a set of all of the scenes with commentary. I think the set is usually on the last disc, which makes a lot more sense than putting them on the first disc.

Of course, I think the real issue is that TV DVD sets aren't usually made with Netflix in mind. They probably figure that, if you haven't seen all the episodes, you can just put the first disc back in after you have, since you buy all of them in a set anyway. And that's obviously not possible if you've already returned the first disc.

The Simpsons DVD sounds like it's set up pretty well. It'd be cool if more shows fixed up their disks like that.

I did consider that if you really wanted to see the scenes without spoiling the show, you could re-add just the first disk after the series ends, but that's just annoying.
