I'm REALLY disappointed with this season so far. I have this horrible feeling that it's going to put me off of Who, and nothing has ever done that before.
It's becoming darker, and has slowly become the Doctor/Amy show. Even with the bullshit scene today with her and Rory, there's still more chemistry between her and the Doctor, and that's infuriating.
Also, I don't know if you get this because I know you watch online, but the opening is angering as well. Amy talking about her imaginary friend the Raggedy Doctor. D: I thought it was going to be a one time thing for the opener, but now that it was on this one, I am worried.
I am super excited for Gaiman's episode, and I am hoping that nothing puts me off of it, like the first 3 episodes have.
You and I have already debated the merits/disadvantages of dark!Who, and I'm still strongly in favor ~ so the first two episodes didn't bother me (or, better to say they don't bother me yet; much will depend on how Moffat explains that child ... and what happens with Amy's mysterious pregnancy.) But good gawd, was this last episode bad. I was actually checking Facebook while it was playing in another tab, where I couldn't see it. Oi.
I haven't seen the opening at all, though from what you're saying it seems to have pegged exactly what I don't like about Amy; she doesn't develop. She's still just a whiny, spoiled child, even after all she's seen and been through. Still expects everything to just magically be shiny and sparkly and wonderful with the world, and is still completely and appallingly useless in high-pressure situations. -_-; I agree with you that she and the Doctor have more chemistry than she does with Rory, and that is worrisome as well as irritating
( ... )
It was pretty appallingly awful. D: I was actually bored. And a group of 17th century pirates are just going to happily accept that they're now spaceship pilots without a single decent freakout? Yeeeeeah. Sure. That'd happen.
kemmi just pointed out to me that the writer of the show is also writing the Reichenbach episode for the next season of Sherlock ... I'm officially worried now.
But yaay for Gaiman! It does look dark; I like dark. :D Can't wait!
I think anything would pale in comparison to that insane two-parter of a opener, but it was a bit lacking... though surprise surprise it was written by the guy who did Blind Banker, the same guy who is doing Reichenbach x___x
That may be true, but still; this last episode was just straight-up bad. I was actually bored watching it; I checked the time stamp on the vid player at least twice, and almost didn't finish it at all. And I reached the end of my 'willing suspension of disbelief' limit when those 17th century pirates cheerfully accepted that they were in a spaceship and zooming about the galaxy without one decent HOLYSHITWTF freakout. XD
Noooo, tell me that's a joke! D: Not. Good. The Blind Baker was at least tolerable, but one would hope he'd become a better writer with time, not a worse one ... ugh, now I'm really hoping there were just budget cuts and time limit issues and the mermaid episode got hacked to bits and sucked because of that, because otherwise ... oh writers, don't ruin Sherlock for me. I can accept that I may lose patience with and interest in Who before this season is over, but not Sherlock. Don't do it. D:
