I've read a bit of steampunk fiction, both in novel and short story form, and honestly, your story is nothing like anything I've read. I think that if you did decide to peak into some of the novels, I don't think it would really hinder your story, at all. And if you do steer clear of them all together, you'll come to see that your story is a very strong stand alone piece.

Thanks! I'm very happy to hear that. ♥ Nothing irritates me more than reading an idea I already had, because I know then that no one's going to believe I didn't steal it, no matter what dates I have on my notes. >.< I suppose no idea is original anymore, but ... still.
