Buddhism's all about the denial of self, but if you're denying yourself, what's the point? In a way it's almost like committing spiritual suicide by sublimating yourself into the cosmic flow with no regard for your own identity. I took a Buddhism class as a lark during my time in Kansai. Was filled with pretentious assholes who would talk derisively about Christianity...which I had anticipated, and which I didn't think would bug me until it was happening.

But I shut up about it for a while. Then, one day we somehow got on a discussion about the idea of "heaven", and some douchebag starts spouting off about how the Kingdom of Heaven is such a selfish goal to try to attain, and everyone starts nodding along with him. So I stand up and I'm like, "Whoa whoa whoa...how is the desire to attain nirvana ANY LESS selfish than the desire to be with God in Heaven?" No one had an answer for me.
