It was Luciano’s fault that he had been drinking too much lately.
Daniel quickly drank what was left on the glass before being dragged by the arm to the dance floor. He hated this place. The music, loud, monotone, and superficial; the people pushing each other to make themselves a room to dance.

The pop music.

The screams and drunken laughing.

The music.

And some other couple making out- actually, they were practically having sex while dancing.

The fucking music.

He wouldn’t have accepted to come here sober. That’s when Luciano takes the blame, with his puppy eyes and nice smile, that makes Daniel urge for a beer the second he sees them.

Bless his high alcohol tolerance.

“Come on, let’s dance!” Luciano yelled, his voice barely heard over the music.

Daniel looked at him as if he just said a very, very bad word.

Oh, no. No.

Daniel does not dance. He can’t dance for shit. Give him a bull, he’d ride it. But fuck, dancing? And on top of that, this kind of music?

Hell no. He wasn’t drunk enough.

Damn his high alcohol tolerance.

“Okay, sure” … great. At least Luciano didn’t seem to hear it; smiling broadly as his shoulders were already following the rhythm of a catchy techno pop song. His head went next, moving from side to side, then his hips, and Luciano was completely lost in the music.

Just as Daniel was completely lost in Luciano’s dance.

Oblivious, Luciano kept on dancing, not caring for anyone else around him, as if he owned the whole dancing floor. His hands touching his neck, then going up to run his fingers through his hair, soon wet with sweat, closing his eyes, letting his ears and what they listened guide his body, every move in perfect timing with the music. His shoulders matched the sway of his hips and gave the whole movement a more edgy effect.

Daniel was mesmerized. He already knew Luciano had a good ear, since the first time he played guitar with him and heard him sing. But he never knew his friend was such an amazing dancer as well. Luciano just made the place, the song, more bearable, comfortable, intimate.

And the only thing he did was dance.

And Daniel found himself enjoying it, as he moved his body in what he thought it was dancing. His entire body seemed stiff: he wouldn’t move his feet or his shoulders, his knees flexing awkwardly, driving him up and down, like a baby, shaking his fists near his chest as if he was holding maracas… or imitating a baby gorilla. The sight was so tragically ridiculous it wasn’t even worth a laugh.

And then Luciano made a quick pelvis thrust to the air, and Daniel forgot he was supposed to be dancing. Or blinking. Or breathing.

He still couldn’t take his eyes off his friend, and he wasn’t the only one. Girls were approaching them, well, approaching Luciano, dancing around him and getting closer and closer, until Luciano decided to pick one and dance with her.

Ah.

Daniel looked at how Luciano fixed his eyes, confident, on the girl’s face, as he pressed their bodies together, their hips moving slowly to meet each other.

Daniel tried to swallow, and found that his throat was completely dry.

Good.

With his fist in his pockets, Daniel turned and walked away, back to the bar.

He felt a tug on his arm, and then a hand on his shoulder.

“Where are you going?!” Luciano’s yelled near his ear.

With a sigh, Daniel turned his head to his friend, forcing a smile. He was just thankful there was even less light where they were now, so Luciano could not notice anything. “I need a drink”

“Again?!” Luciano was still catching his breath, his chest raising and falling quickly, as sweat fell from his face, down his neck and-

Oh god, Daniel was sweating too. Even though he hardly moved a finger.

“Yes” he murmured. He didn’t even expect Luciano to hear it, and it was impossible to read his lips in the dark. He shrugged off the hand on his shoulder and made his way to the bar. He didn’t look back.

He only nodded at the barman, and then there was a glass of that strong drink with weird colors which he could not remember the name right then.

The song changed, finally, to a shittier one- in his personal opinion.

He sat with his back to the dance floor. The colorful lights above him made the liquid in his glass look even weirder. He took a sip, hissing as the alcohol burned his throat, and then took another one.

Luciano probably was back at the middle of the dance floor, with all those hot chicks begging for his attention. Daniel could even see them all dancing again, in his mind, a sweet, firm butt moving so graciously with the music and…

… It didn’t belong to any of those girls.

Daniel choked. Coughed. Part of his drink even made its way out of his nose, making his nostrils itch in discomfort.

Cursing, Daniel turned once more to the dance floor. There was too much people. He couldn’t see his friend.

With a heavy sigh, Daniel raised his glass and nodded at all those people, even though the toast was for only one of them.

He didn’t notice that Luciano did not move from the dark place where Daniel left him. The smile that he wore when they entered the club was gone, as he sees Daniel raising his glass at nothing.

A toast for Luciano, the one who takes all the blame for his new drinking problem.

And Daniel finished his drink.
