And You Thought Your Family Was Crazy!

There's a new blog out there. The author is an anonymous 26 year old woman with 7 children who is currently pregnant with twins. She was raised in some sort of Jewish cult in which the father abused his daughters and the wife and everyone wore veils and females were not allowed to speak in the presence of males.

The entire blog is pretty ( Read more... )

Sounds like Ima Taliban. I don't think it is real, as we would know about this sect earlier.

She writes that she grew up in a countryside farm. It means it is not an ultra-orthodox Jewish cult, like “Burqah Women” in Israel. Possibly, it is a pseudo-Jewish cult from Christian origin, may be even one-family cult - unfortunately it is not so uncommon in the US. She writes that she Jewish from the birth-may be her mother is Jewish (probably from secular background) that get married into this cult.

You think the blog is made up? Did you read it? It does not sound made up, she writes very realistically.

No I did not say it made up. I guess it is a cult from Christian origin that tries strictly following the “Old Testimony”.-they are number of cults like this in the American countryside, like the “sexual farm” in Texas. Actually, she writes in one of her comments that her family’s cult was based also on the things from Christian origins. I also guess that her mother is from Jewish origin, which makes her Jewish. Now she tries to be a “normative” Jewish Haredi.

Wow if this is real, it's terrible. I just never pictured Judaism, even the wildest groups - to be quite like that. Well, I guess good for her, if it IS true. But psychologically, I'm sure, scarred for life.

I think I know this cult, its somewhere in Canada. Her abba is a baal tshuva from Israel. He has been in lots of trouble, he is highly intelligent and manipulative. Its all true.

I think she writes her father is dead now.

It rings a very faint bell for me as well.

I agree with the previous commenter that the whole thing sounds more like one of those crazy fundamentalist "back to the Old Testament" Christian cults than Judaism. It doesn't mean that it is, but it wouldn't surprise me.

awful, u r right, but this is no real existential danger stjust May 30 2011, 15:11:13 UTC
the real danger lies in those in your previous posting. (modeh ani)
those lurking from novosibirsk to melbourne and from san francisco eastward all the way to honolulu with their messages of cultic deceiptful heresy while brandishing the u.s. education day badge.

I was struck by something she said in a different post, when she was responding to someone's comment. She mentioned that one of the things her parents did right was teach her that when people looked at her like a freak, they were actually just jealous. Oy vey.

I can't express how horrible this is to me. Does she provide (normal) sources for all this?

For info, there is a BT Temani wannabe amother in Israel whose toddlers cover their hair, and a (normal) amother who is 26 with 7 kids too.

I know of young unmarried women from various Edot HaMizrach who cover their hair during davening or saying brachot. Sometimes it's just easier to leave the covering on.
