Is it Only a Matter of Time?

The parallels between the rise of Early Christianity and what is going on in some factions of Chabad is well known and has been extensively written and argued about by people with more knowledge that I have.

What is less known because it is maybe just beginning is the weirdish cult-like following starting behind Shalom Mordechai Rubashkin. It's one ( Read more... )

Studies in Mysticism and Religion Presented to Gershom G. Scholem on His Seventieth Birthday by Pupils, Colleagues and Friends.
I admit I did not own the book but found it in the public library in Netivot.

People who crave charismatic leadership badly enough, and don’t have an actual charismatic leader to follow, will create one. Since SMR is locked up, people can even project whatever qualities they want onto him, because they won’t actually meet him. And presumably his conviction reminds these people of other Chassidic rebbes who were imprisoned by the government, back in the early days of the movement.

I just want to that that is not the only connection between chasidut and shabatai zvi that i have noticed. You might be aware of the story in the Shivchai HaBesht in which the besht praised the books of the zorepf from villna and said that one learning thoses books would merit to rush hakodesh. It later was known that that zoreph was a secret prophet of shabatai zvi. Like i said there are plenty of connections.

Our Rebbe in jail,
hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come,
you will be released,
on earth as it is in 770.
Give us this day our dvar torah,
and forgive us our criminal cases,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Amen"

hey, moron, os this supposed to rhyme? two pieces of advice:
1) learn English;
2) remember Ibn Ezra's admonition about rhyming - לא תחרוז שור וחמור יחדיו

I think the best indicator will be the amount of money donated for his cause.

If it won't dwindle, it will be a pretty clear indicator that he means something more to them.

Writing Divrei Torah from prison is not necessarily an issue, as (I'm assuming) he's got nothing else to do but learn. However, the publicity given to his letters and divrei Torah leave a bad taste (imho).
