Kangin looked outside as the rain pounded against the window. He couldn’t sleep no matter how hard he tried and Leeteuk had already fallen asleep in the other bed. It was already 1 o’clock and they had to wake up early in the morning to get ready to be signing autographs all day. He sighed, “Maybe water will help.”
He silently pulled open the door and walked to the kitchen. He flicked on the kitchen lights and grabbed a glass cup. He almost dropped the cup when he turned around to see Sungmin standing in the hallway holding his stuffed bunny. “Don’t do that Sungmin. You almost scared the shit out of me.”
He filled his cup with warm water and took a seat at the kitchen table. Kangin took a small sip from his cup and looked up at Sungmin. “Why are you just standing there? Sit down.”
Sungmin nodded and took the seat across from Kangin. Sungmin stared down and started to fiddle with the bunny’s ears while stealing glances at Kangin here and there. An awkward silence began to grow in the room and Kangin was always the one to fix it. “So, you can’t sleep either?”
Sungmin looked up and shook his head, “No… I’m scared of-”
He was cut off when a loud clap of thunder and a flash of lightning litted up the room for a second. Sungmin literally jumped out of his chair and hid under the table. Kangin couldn’t help but let out a laugh of disbelief, “No way! You’re scared of thunder?”
Sungmin covered his ears and pulled his knees close. Kangin tapped on Sungmin’s shoulder, “Hey are you okay? It can’t be that bad.”
Sungmin looked up at Kangin with tears on the brim of his eyes. Kangin’s heart melted at the sight. He looked so fragile and innocent, like a child separated from its parents. “Do you want to sleep with me?”
Sungmin stared at Kangin for a second and slowly nodded. Kangin reached out a warm hand and Sungmin slowly took it while gripping the pink bunny tightly against his chest. Kangin helped him off the floor and wrapped an arm around the shivering Sungmin as he led him in the room.
Sungmin slipped under the covers first and made room for Kangin. “Kay, go to sleep now. We have to wake up early tomorrow.”
“Okay. Good night, hyung.”
“Good night.” Kangin closed his eyes for a couple of seconds before he heard another loud roaring thunder. When Kangin felt the younger one flinch beside him, he pulled Sungmin closer against his chest. He smiled when he felt Sungmin snuggle closer against his chest.
Even with the loud thunder and pounding of the rain against the window, the sound of Sungmin’s steady breathing and the feel of Sungmin’s hot breath through his thin t-shirt lead him to sleep.
