8. Locket

Kangin, Leeteuk, and Siwon came rushing into the waiting room joining the other members. Kangin looked around the room and headed straight for Heechul.
“What the fuck happened?! How can you let Sungmin get hit by a van?! Weren’t you watching him?!” Kangin grabbed Heechul by his shirt collar and slammed him into the wall.
“Stop it Kangin!” Leeteuk said, “What you’re doing isn’t going to help Sungmin right now!”
Kangin let go of Heechul’s collar and shook off the others angrily. The others watched him drag himself over to the chair across the room.
“Heechul, what happened to Sungmin?” Leeteuk quietly asked. Heechul only continued to stare ahead with swollen red eyes.
The doctor came out of the emergency room and Heechul was the first one to get to him, “How is he?!”
The doctor shook his head, “He won’t make it, he’s lost too much blood. These are probably going to be his last minutes, you guys can go in to see him.”
The whole group ran into the room and crowded around the bed. Heechul stood in the corner of the room, he didn’t have the face to see Sungmin.
The others watched Sungmin as they all began to weep and say their last words to Sungmin.
“I…want to talk to…Heechul alone…” he managed to whisper.
The others kissed Sungmin goodbye and left quietly as they cried, but not before glancing at the dazed Heechul in the corner of the room. Slowly Heechul approached the bedside, “I’m really glad I met you, hyung.”
Heechul was speechless as he cried while brushing Sungmin’s cheeks gently with his hand. “Before I go… I have something for you…”
Gently Sungmin slow raised his right hand to give to him. Before he could, he used his last breath to whisper, “I love you…”
The long tone filled the room as Heechul wept holding Sungmin’s hand.

When the group left the hospital, he opened his fist and stared at the locket in his hand. Heechul stared at the bloodstains and gently opened it. Inside was a picture of him and Sungmin sharing a cookie during Valentine’s day.
‘Now we have something to always remember when we eat cookies!’ Sungmin smiled.
