Also, I think that 11-15 is just about the nastiest age to be. After that, Beelzebub loosens his mighty grip a smidge, and terms such as sympathy and sharing re-enter the vocabulary.

i have to say that i disagree that 11-15 is the nastiest age to be. and don't get me wrong, i didn't have a strange, charmed teenage life. i've looked back on it and thought much the same thing- but i have also looked back on it as the most intensely lived portion of my life, which i don't think is particularly nasty. i've also looked back on it fondly, full of thoughts of freedom and responsibility and justice and love and joy. i think that being a teenager is about finding yourself- and that's exciting in itself.
