My mind has felt very full recently...I always have so many thoughts swirling through my head that's it's difficult to concentrate on any one thing

I really miss that girl I was, who was inspired to write all the time. I know that, realistically, my life has changed a lot, which may be the reason why my writing output has changed. First off, sorry it took me so long to respond to this!
I'm glad you could find something to relate to here, Crystal...I agree with pretty much everything you've said as well. Especially this:
I also think education plays into this. When we're teenagers we haven't been exposed to as much and you think you're awesome and your English teachers reinforce this because they are just so excited a young person is writing. And then you are exposed to great stuff and shit stuff and you start to feel (or at least I did) cliche.
The exact same thing happened to me...my teachers didn't make me realize that the writing I was doing was good for a person of that age, and not good in general. Then when I got older I realized I wasn't as good as I'd thought, LOL. I didn't just feel cliche, I felt like a bad writer, period!
I also totally get what you mean about the "fluff." Awhile back I gave myself permission to read it, now I also have to give myself permission to write it. Not everything I write has to be on par with The Road by Cormac
