Has anyone on my friendslist ever read the Outlander novel series by Diana Gabaldon? I first heard of it when Joel's very cool and well-read grandmother recommended it to me when we were on our cruise with his family last November. The books are an interesting combination of romance, British historical fiction, and fantasy. It's about a young ( Read more... )

Jamie Fraser is one of my favorite characters in the history of forever, as is Claire and so, so many others. :D

Yay!!! So happy you've read them! :D Did you finish the series? I hope to have read up to An Echo In The Bone by the end of the year.

I wish there were more of an online fandom presence for the series, like fic and fanart. I'm so used to there being sooo much out there like there is for Harry Potter. I also can't believe they haven't done an Outlander mini series or film yet...although I wonder who they can cast for Jamie and Claire that would be good enough.

I have heard of this series, but I've never read it. Your glowing review definitely makes me want to try it out, though! Perhaps that'll be added to my list of "to-read." Thanks for the rec! :)

I'm so pleased that you've even heard of it before! Like I said, it was completely unknown to me until last November...now I can't understand why I didn't hear of the books years ago. It's the kind of series I've been waiting all my life to read. Better late than never, though.

I have a feeling that you'd love the series for the same reasons I do, while also being weirded out by the same parts, haha. Reading it all is an investment, for sure, since there are seven books and they're long...but it's been totally worth it so far. :D If you ever do start the series, I'll be dying to know what you think of it!

Right, especially since it sounds right up your alley! I must have seen her name when I was working in the library...it sounds familiar, at least.

haha! Probably. :P Yeah, it's quite a series, I can see that. But I'd be willing to try it out, especially if it captivated you so much!

(I got your email, will probably respond later tonight)

Oh, it so is up my alley, even though in a lot of ways it feels like a guilty pleasure too, LOL. I wouldn't be surprised at all if you came across her books while working in the library. They're always checked out at my local library, which shows how popular they are.

Nod, since you've undertaken other long series like HP and epically long fics, I'm sure you'd have little problem breezing through Outlander.

(Thanks for letting me know! Take your time!)

I haven't read the most recent two but I devoured the rest years ago and every now and again drag em out again for a fun read (I even have the first one on my iPhone kindle app)

I really need to catch up...

Squee, I had no idea you'd read them!! Has Sarah read them too? Maybe by the time you've caught up I'll have read all seven books as well, and then we can really discuss. :D The eighth and final book is supposed to come next year, as well...or so I hear.
