oh lordy.
it's amazing what good music can do.
kristina was wonderful and drove. she didn't have to, but i think we are both SO GLAD that she did. i probably would have turned around. there were parts in mass that were hella scary, and of course, we got lost. finding the place and parking was hell too.
but we finally found the middle east and went in to pay. kristina got x's on her hand, then the girl checked my id and reached for a silly 21+ bracelet. i asked if i could get x's instead and she looked at me all weird and put the bracelet on my right wrist.
we thought we were REALLY late, because it was almost 8:30 and the doors were at 7. but the first band didn't even start til then. so we ate! tofu couscous with nifty pita bread is mmmmmmmmmmmmgood. the super cool waiter got a really good tip from us. he wants kristina to come back when she turns 21. something about them both being leos and clicking.
the bathroom was dim and dirty, and the hand dryer sounded a little like a chainsaw. i thought the venue would be bigger, and i suppose a little classier (?), but it was still really cool. the stage was pretty small too, for what i was expecting.
nonetheless, we scooted our way to the front for ALOHA! <333 they played and gave me goosebumps and made my heart melt. THEIR MUSIC SOUNDS LIKE BEING HUGGED. that's what i've decided. i love it. the thing that was weird though, was that i started to think that i generally listen to really crappy music and i need to start liking better music...like ALOHA. i need to have standards for my listening repertoire.
also, i think i might have a hard time hanging onto bands that are no longer in existence. i mean, i've sworn over and over that rustic overtones are my favorite band and will be forever and ever. but i am not so sure anymore. "demon days" and "here comes everyone" are my two favorite albums right now. i'll have to give it time though. perhaps it's just the immediacy of letting myself become enthralled by the gorillaz and aloha right now that i'm excluding music that i loved the same way in years past.
but again, ALOHA was AMAZING. the drummer was especially incredible. it was a seemless transition when they switched instruments (plus, i got really excited about it). they played my three favorite songs off "here comes everyone" ("all the wars," "summer away," and the closing song "you've escaped"), however, no song was a bad song. annnnnnd kristina really liked them! that was good news.
i bought "here comes everyone" on vinyl because it is my favorite, and she bought it on vinyl too because i recommended that album in particular. we watched a few songs of victory at sea. they were damn cool. that girl rules. but then we decided to head out, because it was late (11ish?) and it was a loooong drive. the show probably wouldn't have gotten over much before 12:30/1am. before we left, she made me talk to the bass player. it was so awkward and rather embarrassing when she started telling him how much i loved his band. but that is what i love so dearly about kristina. she is a brave sweetheart.
it was much easier and much less stressful and confusing getting home.
AND AND AND as silly as myspace is, any communication with shawn saindon makes me super happy!!! :)
imma done.
