One thing, Maryani guessed, that would continually annoy Martel: her tendency to take Ehlana's side on things. "How nice for them," Martel says, flatly. He'd argued as long and as loud as Stragen and Platime had against allowing ('allowing') Ehlana out of Cimmura--to Chyrellos, of all places, now--and once they'd lost that battle, the moody 'General' had spent the journey making sure his very presence was a disapproving objection to their chosen course of action.

So she stops him in the middle of the hall and arches onto her tiptoes to kiss him. After all, it's the tried and true method! Fortunately, there don't appear to be a lot of spectators around, although that is subject to change. Not that Maryani would care, because she has no sense of propriety.

"It isn't, is it?"
Just, you know, checking.
