Yea, it's true. It's not the cause I'm first passionate about. But I'll have you know I did vote for a Green Party candidate for Congress, because I was sick of reading the same platforms. She lost, but I do not consider my vote wasted.
But for the first time, when a vote for gay marriage (or a vote against it) went to the people, they voted to allow it (or not to ban it). And that's huge. That's what I'm most excited about. Today, for the first time ever, I think that it's possible that my kids won't remember a time when gay marriage was totally taboo. And that's a huge step forward.
I very much agree with you that social issues have been taking a backseat to economics... And I'm getting pretty tired of people I know who say "I voted Republican just because I agree with the economic platform". I'm trying not to read in between the lines too much, but it sounds a lot like "economics is more important to me than people's rights". -_- I think you've summed up the general feeling in the air very well.
I think this sums up my feelings about this election pretty perfectly. I did vote, of course, but it was difficult to feel enthused per se. It's not that I don't believe in Obama, but this entire party system just depressed me, really. I voted for a libertarian for treasurer, since our state tends to be incredibly corrupt in that department.
