Maybe the problem isn't that Harvey is scared to love someone or has apprehensions, maybe that's just something we all made up in our head. Maybe it's that he just doesn't love so easily. Maybe there isn't specific reasons or anything, maybe it's just that he just doesn't fall in love so easily. He is obviously capable in sharing his feelings ( Read more... )

*nods head* I agree. With Zoe when I saw the scenes with her initially I kept chanting "you're trying to change him and people don't change". Everyone grieves in their own way and I would guess that Harvey as an extrovert needed to be around people to process his grief. As for Scottie, it's so hard to tell with what we've seen so far - my take has been that Scottie saw him as a friend with benefits and is so self involved that she couldn't think of a reason why Harvey would not want to sleep with her engagement or not since he has no morals. I think Harvey thought they were really friends and was truly hurt that she would compromise his morals and cheat on her fiancé with him.

Anyway, I took the failure of both relationships as caused by Zoe and Scottie failing to take him on his own terms, how he does react and emote versus some fairy ideal that they try to fit him and his emotional responses into. We can talk about whether he's damaged or whatever but the truth is that how someone does express love and emotion won't change fundamentally, just change on the periphery. Look how he reacted to learning of Edith Ross's death - when Mike came in to work and said nothing about it, Harvey took it as Mike wanting to work through his grief. Telling, no?

Frankly I kind of wanted to smack Zoe when she started lecturing him on how he should be grieving for his father and telling him he had lost his way. A close family member had two major surgeries this year and knowing myself, she insisted we work then come to visit once she was awake. That's how we both handle anxiety and waiting best, she already had one person with her to fuss, and who cares what the nurses and doctors judge about us. Someone who shall remain ( ... )

No one is obligated to accept someone's expression of love or care and that's okay. It doesn't make either of them bad or wrong. It just makes Harvey and Zoe incompatible ( ... )

Amen... that scene in the court room was WAY more about Harvey's feelings towards her than Donna's feelings about Harvey. I think at first glance we were supposed to be all "wait, does this mean Donna is in love with romantically?" as Louis obviously does (don't ask a question you don't know the answer to - cross examination 101)which is very much resolved when Harvey asks her to come back. But on rewatching, it becomes much more clear that Harvey was the one stripped bare and his feelings exposed by rushing to her defense. And Zoe in the back was definitely in denial and shock when she saw it (which is odd to me as Harvey is as you said above and does not care about the little stuff that most folks have their egos wrapped up in and other petty bullshit. Think how he just smirked and was amused when he learned Donna fake cried her parents into staying in his condo - his ego wasn't involved, he didn't care, so it was just a funny moment ( ... )
