Personality:

Genis is way cooler than you.

No actually at first Genis does come off as pretty smug. The first image we get of Genis is as Lloyd's best friend and logical half. If Lloyd has the brawn then Genis is the brains of the duo. He gets the best grades in school, gains admission to Palmacosta Academy, and proves to be even more intelligent than his sister, Raine. His intelligence, however, does tend to make Genis sarcastic and sometimes even arrogant. Genis always takes the time to call other party members out on being an idiot, in particular, Lloyd is subjected to this treatment quite often. It all appears to be in good fun, Lloyd tells Genis to shut up, Genis giggles a bit, the two forget about it minutes later.

If only it was that simple.

Later on we see that Genis intentionally pokes fun at Lloyd because he is everything that Genis wishes he was. Lloyd is brave while Genis, is (or at least he thinks he is) a coward. In his own words, he says that whenever anything bad happens, Lloyd jumps into action. Genis, on the other hand, shakes and waits for it to all be over. This is really more his own perception of himself though as there are plenty of times through the game where he's stuck up for himself and for his friends, he just doesn't realize it. It's like... his perception of himself and the reality of himself don't quite match up and this gives Genis a lot of insecurities.

Despite the fact that Genis' arrogance and sarcastic nature makes him come off as childish he is actually very mature for his age. When you consider that he's only twelve and is able to swallow and handle certain things in the game with the air of an adult it really says something about them as a person. For example, when the group finds out that exspheres are made from human lives, Genis is able to swallow it, accept that it's a necessary evil, and continue to use his exsphere instead of throwing it away. A twelve year old that is able to think of the big picture like that and realize that he needs to use his exsphere for the time being to do what's right is mature way beyond the age of twelve.

Genis also shows a lot of hatred towards humans near the canon point where I am taking him from. This is because of his status as a half elf which are widely discriminated against. This makes Genis a bit of a racist towards humans because he sometimes has a hard time seeing humans as anything but a race that discriminates against half-elves. However, he loves Lloyd, considering him to be his best friend, and he's friends with the other party members as well. When humans can look past his race and be kind towards him he is more than capable of giving kindness back. But, as a whole, he tends to feel hatred towards humans for the oppression of half elves.

Extra:
Character Abilities: Genis, as a Half Elf, has the ability to use magic. He learns tons of different spells, which are all listed here! In general, they're all elemental spells. Also, because he is a half elf, he has the ability to tell how much mana is in the air.

Genis is also an Exsphere user. People that have Expheres are kind of like super people, they have just a bit better endurance and fighting ability than your average joe.

Genis is also incredibly intelligent, easily to the point of being a genius. He gets a perfect score during an academic competition at Palmacosta Academy and is instantly admitted in.

Possessions:

✷ Clothing
✷ One World, A Kendama (tradtional japanese toy) which Genis uses as a weapon.
✷ Star Cloak
✷ Star Cap
✷ Star Bracelet
✷ Faerie Ring
✷ Spirit Ring
✷ Marble's Exsphere

Anything else: Genis is a damn good cook, his skill only rivaled by that of Regal's.

Log/Prose sample:

Genis watched his best friend's back. He yelled as his best friend ran through the door. He yelled about his pure and honest feelings.

Above all, Genis didn't want Lloyd to see him in a vulnerable position. Genis knew he wasn't the type of person who could die with dignity like Lloyd could. He was a coward. Even now, he was crying and shaking. He had given up his life to save his friend but he couldn't accept his own predicament. Genis hoped in the back of his mind that Lloyd would come back for him even though he had accepted his death to Lloyd just a few moments ago. It was just more proof of his cowardice.

As the trap closed in on Genis he felt his consciousness dim as he saw a flash of red hair...

And then, silence.

Genis was floating, darkness all around him. Had he really... died? The idea scared Genis, but as bad as dying seemed, this was rather calm and peaceful. At first, there was nothing around. But then, all of a sudden, a dresser with a small music box was seated on top. Genis walks through the darkness to the only source of hope, and carefully lifts the lid up. As a melody pours out of the box, a scene unfolds below Genis. Valiant brave men dancing with beautiful women in a grand hall, but the thing that stuck out to Genis the most is the fact that everyone was of different races. Elves dancing with Humans, Humans dancing with Half Elves, Half Elves dancing with other Elves. It was the word that Lloyd... no, that Genis himself wanted to see someday. That ideal world that all of his friends shared, it had poured out in front of him. Genis briefly wondered if this was heaven before the scene faded away just as it had come.

And then, Genis was in a new place altogether. His curiosity and amazement was piped at the marble hallways and long staircases. Genis felt himself fill with mixed emotions, happiness at such a calm sight and sadness. He was still disappointed with himself, after all he had let down his best friend in the end. That would be a burden he would carry for a very long time. With that image of Lloyd's back burned into his mind, he proceeds forward into the city known as Splendor.
