Who: Hal 'Otacon' Emmerich (
justlikeoneofmy) and Kia WelBehenna (
kia_on_top)
What: Kia is bored out of his mind. Otacon does not understand why.
When: Sometime before Ken's birthday!
Where: Deep in the depths of Otacons' lab!
He had no idea how Otacon could spend so long in such small rooms, even falling asleep at his computer more than once. Kia tried to deal with it, he really did, but it had been two and a half weeks of utter tedium. Helping Otacon with some work that he understood passed a little time, as did all of the time he spent fantasizing in the showers, but even that grew tedious without a partner. So today he decided to resort to physical activity of the sort that came to his mind far too easily. Military physical training. Kia had his shirt off as he did as many pushups as his arms felt capable of, then rolled over onto his back to rest before situps.
Otacon, for his part, wasn't a total idiot. He'd noticed that Kia was growing more and more restless as he stayed in the labs- he just didn't know why. He'd tried everything- games, anime, even getting Kia to help out (well, the last one had helped a bit). But now Kia was exercising on the floor and Otacon was very much NOT thinking of Snake and and yeah.
BOCKS seemed to have grown fond of the man over the time he'd been staying here, and it was watching Kia now. Its admiring coos were easy to hear over Otacon's rapidfire typing and Kia's quick breathing. "Sorry," he offered, looking over at the little machine in time to see a heart broadcast on its front panel. Oh god. BOCKS had a crush on Kia. This was- was- not good. "BOCKS likes uh. He likes people!"
Kia'd grown used to BOCKS's weird noises, but these were a completely different sort. He looked at both it and Otacon once he'd finished his situps and his eyes widened when he noticed the heart on its display. That had to be a first. "I'm used to making guys love me. But I'm pretty sure this is the first time something without a pulse has been interested. Just how much intelligence did you give him anyway?"
Otacon, in the middle of taking a sip of tea, coughed hard. Kia thought BOCKS's crush was his fault?! Oh no! Oh god! This was not good! "He's just a little robot," Otacon told Kia, standing up and scooping BOCKS up. The robot in question sputtered angrily and kicked- somewhat uselessly, it must be noted, given its legs were about an inch long. "It's probably like how little kids get crushes on older people." He hoped that was what it was. He wasn't going to think too hard about the fact that the AI was based on his own personality.
Kia didn't know what to think about Otacon apparently choking on his tea. He knew that the robot and creator had similar personalities, but that didn't mean that the engineer would have similar thoughts to Kia's workout, right? "No matter how it is, it's funny and kinda cute." He wiped some sweat off his back with his shirt and stretched. Kia ached now, but in the good way that came from physical activity of any sort.
"Phew," Otacon responded. "I'm glad you're not upset." He was. Really. Really glad. "Are you all done for now?" He asked, trying to move the subject away from the little cooing noises coming from his hand. He was never sure if those physical types liked the exercise or if it was just a maintenance thing, but at least he could make them something to drink when they were done. It was one less mystery, at least.
"I can't run laps or anything here, so I'll probably just do a few pullups from the door frame and then call it enough for now. Why?" Kia asked, ignoring that his hair fell in his face now that it was damp. "I'm not used to staying somewhere small all the time. I don't know how you can do it."
Otacon tilted his head at the question in Kia's words. How did he do it? Well... he liked small spaces. They were.... nice. Comforting. "I was just asking so I could know if you wanted some tea or something," he explained. "And... I like small spaces because you know the place really well. You're safe, you know?" He jiggled BOCKS a little, then went over to his desk and put it down.
He bent over and rested his hands on the floor with little effort. Kia enjoyed being more flexible than most people were. "If you've got iced tea, that would be nice." After he stood up again, he picked up BOCKS and smiled. For some reason, he'd grown almost fond of the quirky little bot.
Otacon nodded and went off to find the tea he'd made earlier, making sure to ice it kind of properly beforehand. (It mostly entailed ice cubes and watching them melt sadly.) When he came back, he couldn't help but laugh. Kia was smiling at BOCKS, and the robot had projected a big anime-style smiley on its surface in response. "Haha, BOCKS really does like you." He put the cup down and watched them.
That smiley made him laugh. Though he was never really sure where the looks BOCKS showed came from, Kia still found them funny. He took the tea, drank most of it in one chug, and grinned at Otacon. "Don't you ever want open spaces or the highway underneath you or some cute person next to you, so you can do new things and feel different versions of the same emotion?"
Otacon was with Kia until he got to the part about being next to some cute person, or experiencing different emotions. No way. He'd had way too much of that kind of stuff, in his opinion. The part about being next to somebody cute was kind of interesting, though. "I... dunno'," he admitted. "I've had enough excitement in my life, but... I guess I wouldn't mind being with somebody."
Kia had had plenty of excitement, like saving Ali from assassins and helping Silvio solve the riddle from his past. They'd been strange, but most of them had eventually ended well. "I like excitement. There's always something to learn from adventures, even if they don't end so great, like this one. And the people I'm with are always part of that." He smiled, lonely for a moment, as he pictured Ken.
On his part, Otacon was thinking of Snake. Was he alone right now? Was he in danger? He sure hoped not. Maybe he was taking a break for a while, eating a tv dinner and watching television in some country he didn't know the language of. Oh, Snake... He sighed, feeling morose, and patted Kia on the shoulder. He didn't know it, but his face always fell into a unique level of misery when he was thinking about his boyfriend. "I'm sure this will all blow over eventually. Then you can go woo him, right?"
He'd seen that this was far from over. With the others just now arrested, they would probably now begin their hunt for his head. Or the heads of those close to him. Kia shrugged. "I'm still confused about it. I can't tell if I'm really attracted to him or if it's just habit because of what I used to do," he admitted softly.
Otacon tilted his head to one side. What he used to do? Oh, right- he'd hacked his files and found out some interesting things. "Well... I dunno'. You haven't tried anything like that with me," he pointed out carefully. He wasn't sure if Kia knew that he knew what he used to do. "But you did with Kia. So maybe you do like him like that, right?"
He snickered. "Not trying anything doesn't mean I haven't thought about it. But I think the only thing that gets you going is robots." Kia wasn't totally serious with his remark about Otacon's sexuality. "And what happened with Ken was a dare I didn't totally expect him to let me carry out. It happened, but I don't really know why."
"H- hey! That's not true at all!" Otacon protested loudly, his ears burning. Did Kia really think that!? "I like all sorts of people, not just..." he shut up and started blushing when Kia mentioned his going-ons with Ken. "Well, maybe he liked you too? That's the only reason that somebody would do that kind of stuff."
He shrugged again and laughed at BOCKS's continued reactions to his stretching. "I won't make sense of it until I get to see him again. But who knows how long that would be...wait a moment, it's his birthday next week!" His face lit up. "Think it'd be safe to visit him for cake and presents?" Kia's mood changed entirely too fast.
Oh, wow. No, probably not. But... Kia had just looked so happy! "I... I guess so. I mean.... take BOCKS with you. And don't tell anybody! And... be careful. Really careful. So careful!" He took a deep breath and tried not to think about Kia getting his brains shot out or whatever other exciting things could happen to him.
"Of course. I'll take every precaution I can, I'll keep BOCKS with me, and I won't be there too long. Just enough to show him that I know his birthday. It'll be fine." He kept smiling and looked around again. Talking helped keep his mind busy for a moment, but he wouldn't really feel good until he'd been outside.
