Two Planets

This is the nerdiest thing I've ever done.

You don't need to be familiar with both shows to read this. Basically, all you need to know is this: Fox Mulder and the Tenth Doctor? They've both got 99 problems but their hair ain't one.

Fox Mulder and the Doctor walk into a bar.
XF season nine, DW post-The Waters of Mars

It was February when the Doctor met the saddest man in the world. )

xf:s9, the x-files, i can't believe i wrote a crossover, doctor who, tenth doctor, dw:wom

Haven't read a single word yet, but I have to say: YES! You Rock! I love you so hard right now, should we be pciking out China patterns or what?

And, to round things off, approving awesomeness icon from the other fandom.

That was perfect (as far as crossovers go.. which I only read when both fandoms involved are in my top five, and make sense to cross. So, this? Perfect)
I have actuallyt been joking with a friend that Doctor and Scully meeting in a random bar would be an awesome instance of woobie oneupmanship. But Mulder brings the male perspective and does make more sense.

“Who’d you lose?”

Also, Mulder telling Ten that it is never "better that way" - beside being my own opinion exactly - rings very true for Mulder. He might not have a lot to believe in at that point, but this lesson he has learned.

Thank you for making my Monday night.

“Everyone. Everything.”

Argh, Ten.

P.S.: This is the nerdiest thing I've ever read. In the best possible way.

It started off as a joke! I was watching "The Impossible Planet," when the Doctor starts boohoo-ing about "I've trapped you here," and I was like, "Okay. The Doctor and Mulder, in a bar, who's got the worse life? Go!" But then, surprise, surprise, it actually became something real!

Also, Mulder telling Ten that it is never "better that way" - beside being my own opinion exactly - rings very true for Mulder. He might not have a lot to believe in at that point, but this lesson he has learned.
What I love about Mulder in this situation is that he'd never, ever do that thing that people tend to do on Doctor Who, which is tenderly tell the Doctor he needs someone, he should find someone. Mulder knows it's not better being alone, but he also knows, as he tells the Doctor later, that it's hard. He's not going to go in for that faux supportive optimism thing. I like that Mulder doesn't mince words, and that he's also sort of wise at this point in his life ( ... )

Heh, trust me: The Scully and Doctor wlak into a bar thing is a very hilarious joke between my friend and I, too. It simply kept growing, as we kept giggling into our coffee mugs ( ... )

Oooh. What a treat, two fics all of a sudden from you! I don't even watch Doctor Who, as you know, but I still really enjoyed this. I am such a sucker for good Mulder-on-the-lam-in-S9 fic (of which there is practically none, as I'm sure you know), so this is especially yummy for me. Sparse and lovely and lonely and perfect, as usual.

Oh, yay, I'm so glad you read it, Z! I'm not one for crossovers (like...ever...no, really, I've probably read about two in my entire life) but once I started writing this, it didn't feel like a crossover anymore. Or something. And it was sort of fun to write about Mulder through completely new eyes. I know you love on-the-lam fic (or at least the idea of it!) and it's really crazy there isn't more. There's so much possibility there! Anyway. I'm glad that you braved the crossover waters and that you liked it!

Yeah, I'm with you on crossovers. I think of the very tiny handful I've ever read, one was definitely for humorous purposes only, and I was still very leery of even starting it.

Hey, it's you! I'd brave pretty much anything for you. ;)

Hee, I was hoping I'd built up enough goodwill to convince people to read something that sounds slightly silly!

This was so GOOD! It makes me want to go rewatch all seasons of the X Files right now.

I have never seen Doctor Who but it absolutely doesn't matter at all. This gorgeous. You've done Mulder so well here - as usual of course - and I can just see him in the dusty, faded bar.

“Well, to be fair, I tend towards blithely self-destructive as a rule,” the man said. He shrugged sheepishly. “Everything I touch,” he waved his fingers in the air, “dust in the wind.”

YES.

Like I told Zellie, thank you so much for braving it and reading it anyway. I'm tickled that it seems to have worked, even if you know nothing at all about the Doctor.
