It had alot to do with the rich agricultural opportunities afforded by Argentina's unique climate and geography. Plus, alot of the European culture comes from the huge Italian and Irish immigration during the late eighteenth, early nineteenth century.

very true, we haven't reached that part of the course yet, although i was aware of these latter factors. i guess the more important question would be why those central american countries didn't retain the european influence. i know bolivar and san martin helped liberate south america but who helped liberate central america? and wasn't anti-spanish, or rather anti-colonial, sentiment strong all over the americas? maybe this is where the genocides come into play.

and also, i'm probably more interested in the european city life that buenos aires boasts which has very little to do with any agricultural opportunities and more to do with italian, spanish (of course, british, and french cultures (pompous attitudes included).
