‘Barney’s Version’ tops Genie noms

After being snubbed by Oscar, except for the single citation for best make-up, Barney’s Version is suddenly strutting proudly again as the nominations leader in Canada’s Genie Awards.

Richard J. Lewis’ drama scored 11 Genie noms on Wednesday, one more than Denis Villeneuve’s acclaimed and Oscar-nominated Incendies, which is competing in the Oscars ( Read more... )

Thank you for bringing this article to my attention. It's inspired me to see as many of these movies as seem interesting and that I can get hold of. :)

Just came back from Barney's Version, and have conflicting feelings about it. On the one hand, Canadian cinema and PG in a cameo, yay. On the other.... it's such a mysogenistic film, something clear even from the trailers. I would never have seen it if it wasn't for PG's cameo - I've not had a chance to see him on the big screen before - and then so disappointing that he was in it for two minute scenes, without even a closeup. I mean, how can you have such a lovely man onscreen and not even give him a closeup?? Definitely not a film meant for the female gaze.
