Paul Gross is Gunless, but not hairless

Inquiring minds want to know: is it a wig or hair extensions for Paul Gross?

“Hair extensions!” the normally clean-cut actor groans. He’s explaining how it is that a large dead animal appears to have landed on his head in Gunless, a Canadian western comedy, opening Friday, that asks questions first and shoots later.

Gross has only himself to blame for it. He figured it would be funnier to have his trigger-happy American character, The Montana Kid, looking like the lead singer of a 1980s poodle rock band - even if Gunless is set in the Canada of the 1880s.

“I just sort of woke up one morning thinking, ‘I think this guy should have really long hair,’ and it was probably the worst decision I’d ever made in my life! It’s so awful! And I can’t for the life of me understand why women would have long hair.”

Gross, who turns 51 on Friday, didn’t reckon on what he’d let himself in for.

“I think it took seven hours putting those extensions in. But the worst part about it is that it’s neat for about a day, and then it’s in your mouth all the time; it’s in your food; you wake up and your hair’s scrunched all over your face. It was absolutely horrible. And it’s hot and really dusty.”
