Why does Bieste have a beard? Is Bieste transgender now? I have not been keeping up at all, and I won't, but that's got me curious.

Yeah, it was one of the plotlines of the ep a couple weeks ago- IIRC, Sam saw Beiste have a bunch of pills and got concerned, wondering if there was a medical or some sort of drug issue, and he started poking around, and asked Beiste what was going on. After some more of this back & forth, which Sue got involved in, at first, Beiste claimed the pills were cancer medication, but near the end of the episode, eventually admitted to being transgender, and was taking the pills as part of the process of transitioning to male. After hearing that, Sue gave Beiste extended medical leave, for however long was necessary to take care of things.

It's so fucking offensive. Of COURSE a woman who is not traditionally feminine must actually want to be a man. If women (or men) don't fit into gender roles then they must need to become the gender they align to!
