Aw, that's a pretty good article. I love the bit about him and Damon having to join the actors' guild.
You know, that's an interesting point. I don't think we see nearly as much of other showrunners as we saw of Damon and Carlton. Is it a scifi thing? I know BSG fans used to shake their fists at Ron Moore on occasion. Or is it that with the ensemble cast we never had one or two actors to focus on, so we picked Damon and Carlton instead?
Hee hee, I love that even in the Alps he can't escape it. LOSTIES ARE EVERYWHERE CARLTON, THEY'RE EVERYWHERE AND THEY KNOW WHAT YOU LOOK LIKE.
I think it is more of a sci-fi/fantasy thing. Anything by Joss Whedon, BSG, Dr. Who- I mean even old school stuff like Star Trek. People know the showrunners on these types of shows.
I always think it's the propensity of convention-faring fans. The showrunners just have more stuff to attend. Like, there's not going to be a panel for Mad Men at Comicon, that sort of thing. You have a more obsessive audience. It's just part of the genre's culture. With Darlton in particular, they were really involved with their fanbase, much more so than the average showrunner. Showing up at events, organizing events, always there to sign things. Say hello. Maybe it comes from them being kind of nerdy fanboys themselves (well, at least Damon)?
But yeah, I think this sort of showrunner recognition is much more common with these types of shows.
It funny how just about everything Damon writes makes me rage hilariously, but how very sweet this whole article reads. Carlton just seems so chill and relaxed. How different the two are! I suppose that's what made them a good team. I wish him well on his new project!
