Oscar Predictions for 2011 Animated Films

Nov 05, 2011 20:47

The animated films eligible for the 2011 Academy Award for Best Animated Feature have officially been announced, and I wrote an article with how I think it's gonna turn out:

It's Oscar Predictions Time!

What five from the list do you think will be selected? What do you think will win? What do you think SHOULD win?

As much as I did not enjoy Cars II (compared to other Pixar films; not to say I didn't enjoy it at all, but I was very disappointed), it was the best on the list (aside from Winnie the Pooh, which I have yet to see). This just wasn't a good year for animated films at all. I have high hopes for Tintin though.

Ooops, I thought Brave was coming out this year.

Rango and Winnie the Pooh are the only two that I recall getting really good reviews. I think Rio did really well too.

Unfortunately, I don't think Pixar is getting it this year with Cars 2.

If Tin Tin is as great as everybody's hoping it will be, it might get the nom and the win.

And let's not forget the foreign animated films.

I expect the field to be Tintin, Rango, and one of the smaller films. I think Tintin will win, mostly based on the pedigree.

I enjoyed Cars 2, but it's definitely much more of a popcorn film/summer blockbuster type than Pixar's usual fare.

I'm hearing some Lackluster reports about Tintin, though, which is why I didn't include it. I wouldn't be shocked if it wound up with a nomination, though, nor if that nomination involved taking Cars 2 out of the picture.

Man, two nominated films out of NICKELODEON STUDIOS of all places in a year? When did they get so artsy? O_O

Yuck. I haven't been impressed by any of these movies. Some I haven't heard of nor seen, but I'm not going to hold breath. This was not only a terrible year for animation but just movies in general. Sadly it is worse than last year's Oscars. Let's pray the foreign categories hold more promise to stand a chance.

Kung Fu Panda 2 better get nominated! I was blown away not only the animation but the story itself...not too many maintream animated films would tackle genocide.
