Farragut North

Jul 19, 2009 12:52

I know there have been like 472 of these, but here's just a quick recap of Farragut North on Saturday, July 18 and how incredibly perfect Captain Fine was as Stephen Bellamy:

Oh and to
falsemirror: I promised you I'd ask, & I did. Our lovely Chris Pine said that he got Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance in the mail and he seemed quite happy. :) Deets below.

We were 3rd row aisle. I don't even like politics, but I thought the play was brilliant. Kudos to Beau Willimon (the playwright); it was great and the dialogue was also quite good, I thought. Also in I think the second scene Chris Pine started stripping and the next scene happens in his underwear and GOOD LORD it is dangerous for him to be strutting around in public with a bulge like that. He may very well be attacked. Anyway. Chris was terrific. The play was incredible and he brought such life to his role.

Basically if you don't know the plot, Farragut North is about this guy Stephen Bellamy (Chris Pine) who works for Paul (Chris Noth) on this political campaign and he is a Democrat and I'm not sure of all the particulars but their opponent Tom Duffy calls Stephen and asks to meet him and shit continues to hit the fan until the end of the play and Stephen fucks everything up, the end. Oh and Molly (Olivia Thirlby) is a 19-year-old intern who seduces people and Stephen is a jackass to her but at the same time you can't help but feel sorry for both of them. I hear it's going to be made into a movie?

Afterward, we hung out in the lobby as the actors trickled slowly down the stairs. Chris Pine was the last to come out and honestly the whole time I was waiting, I was pacing and talking 5 miles a minute and really hyper but nervous as hell. Luckily there were like 5 people our age & most of them were older and did not really give a crap. We waited while he talked to people because I had to calm the hell down. HE IS SO MUCH PRETTIER IN PERSON. And he is so skinny, like lady skinny.

Okay I want to get this part absolutely right... we were waiting for him to talk to other people first while we calmed down, and I was super nervous because I had things I wanted to say to him but I ALWAYS act like a dumb fool when I meet people that I adore from a distance. Someone brought a Star Trek Captain Kirk Barbie (I think) for him to sign. Eventually he comes up to us and says "Hi! I'm Chris!" and holds out his hand (I mean I've read tons of recaps on ontd_startrek about how sweet and adorable he is and how he's all "Hi I'm Chris" like no one knows but still, I was all :3) and I'm all "I'm Mimi" & we introduce ourselves and stand there awkwardly but before it can get awkward he's all "Do you want me to sign those?" or something and I was like "Oh yeah please" and thrust my playbill in his face and he's all "...I don't have a pen" and I was like "...Oh. Neither do I" and he's all "Hold on, I'll get one!" and he goes to the desk and asks for a Sharpie and I felt like such an idiot. He signed all of our playbills in silver Sharpie and then instead of walking away from three awkward teenagers who have already made slight fools of themselves with their playbills, he said, "So where are you guys from?" and I said, "San Diego. Well, we go to school here at UCLA, but we're from San Diego." And he was all, "That's great! Thanks so much for coming out!" and I said "Sure! I thought it was a fantastic performance" and he thanked me and thanked us again for coming out and said "Tell all your friends!". My friend asked, "Pictures are ouside, right?" and he replied, "Yeah we're all meeting outside" so we told him we'd see him in a bit and waited outside for a couple minutes. After he finished saying hi to everyone, he came outside to take pictures with us and I thanked him again and he thanked us again and I waited for him to finish taking pictures with the other people, then I asked, "Hey Chris?" and he stopped mid-step and said "Yeah?" (really, I've read recaps about how sweet he is and drops everything to say hi and be sweet to a fan even when he's busy and tired and looks haggard as hell, but it still astounded me) and I said, "I'm sorry to bother you, but someone wanted me to ask you if you've received a copy of Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance in the mail?" and he said, "Oh yeah! Yes I did! It's really great!" (he said something else that I wish I remembered) and I said, "Okay, cool! Great! They'll be really glad to hear that, then!" and I really wanted to mention that I'm reading Zen in the Art of Writing but he had done more than enough for us & had places to be, I'm sure, and I had bugged him enough separate times, so I told him "Thanks so much!" and he said "Thanks for coming out!" again and I said "Have a good night" and we left.

In my dreams I'd mention I'm reading Zen in the Art of Writing and he & I would talk about English major type things and English and writing and the humanities and I don't know. English major type things. But it was completely awesome and I want to relive that night.

The memory is 100x better than I could ever hope to write about, but here it is, for what it's worth

I guess I will share this too even though I was super gross after the play...

Oh and this, which I think is really adorable:

Apologies if you are tired of FN recaps already.
