UMC is hiring more student nurse PCTs at the end of the summer, with training beginning in August. The posting isn't up yet, but when I talked to my supervisor this morning she said they have every intention of hiring ten more nursing students at that time. If you aren't sure about the PCT thing--don't worry. They kinda throw you to the wolves at first, but then you get the hang of it and it's a lot of fun. Don't be scared! You just have to assert yourself to get your learning needs met, because most people won't realize you aren't comfortable doing stuff until its too late.

And what do you mean behavioral stuff? Did they put you on the psych ward?

Yeah I guess UPH has the largest behavioral health unit in the south of AZ. My position is a newer one, I am a patiet care sitter/ pct. So i don't know how much tech stuff I'll actaully being doing. I think most of the time I'll be a sitter who can take vital signs. That's awesome about UMC Its closer, and hopefully I can do more tech stuff. Thanks for the update

The only bad thing about being a student nurse tech at UMC is the fact that UMC has a tech "levelling" system, tech 1, 2, 3 etc. Everyone starts as a tech 1, and to become a tech 2 you have to exit the resource pool and find a home unit, and take a class on how to draw blood and do telemetry and do EKGs. Nurse student techs are forever stuck as tech 1s, though. I've asked to level up, and they basically told me sorry charlie. =( So all you'd be doing here is vitals and stuff too. But it is closer! And you wouldn't even be allowed to go to the psych ward! YAY
